I wouldn't worry too much at all. Sometimes, for some odd reason when you cook them some of them are just stubborn and do not open (the shell part) even though they are cooked. Even if they weren't cooked, people eat raw shellfish all the time....clams oysters and what not that all had to be pried open.

I have worked for seafood restuarants and when the shells on things don't open, they force them open and then put them on the plate. So don't stress and if he's eaten them tons of times before he knows what he's doing
