Re: Repost from BHB: UGH.... I need some serious advice
You will most likely have to move soon anyways if FH lives in NY and he won't move. Your wedding is in Dec 07 right? Have you guys talked about $ Maybe he would like you to take this job. Here's the thing.....I make ok money but LOVE LOVE LOVE my job and that is a blessing. I get up everyday excited to go to work and do my job. I had a job before this one that paid more, but I hated it and hated going to work everyday. If this is a job you have always wanted, it will bring you closer to FH and you guys have talked about $ and he agrees to how your lives would change than DO IT!!!!!

You could take it and look for a new job while working there. That way you would be with your FH. I make good money and I am not crazy about my job, I would be fine if I found my dream job for less money, I would be happier. Anyways just make a list of pros and cons and go from there, good luck!!

if it is something you LOVE to do, I say take it.
You'll work out the money issue.
I make LESS than 40K and I get by (in nyc, mind you)

i think you should take it for the same reasons that others said. but also because you can use it as a stepping stone to a job that is both in the field that you love AND pays better. if you can handle staying at the lower paying dream job for a little bit i think it will prove beneficial in the long run! GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!

I would have to say take the job YOu'll be closer to your FH, and you'll be doing something you love. What more could be better?
I can understand how hard it would be to take a pay cut but if you are switcihng careers you'd have to start somehwere right? And even if this isn't place you want to stay you'll be able to get some experience and move on and make more $$
You can't lose

okay....does anyone know where I can find an apt for < $1000 that accepts dogs and is within reasonable driving distance to Woodbury?
I'd probably checkout craigs list, and make a seperate post for that.
also, try contacting hofstra university.... they may have an 'off campus housing' office, which would have a list of nassau apartments that are reasonably priced.....

40K in NYC is tough but it's not impossible. if you love what you do now, wait it out...everything happens for a reason...who knows? maybe when it's right you'll find something paying even higher than what you're making now! gl
