i work in a staffing agency. And Im doing phones right now. When you are returning a call about a job, it is best if you do not mumble on the phone. Also when you go in for an interview- don't be mean to the person at reception. its annoying and we will just tell the person who is interviewing you that you have no people skills.

To me, that’s just plain stupid! I’m pretty sure I got the job I have now because 1) I was very nice to the receptionist (she actually helped me find the place since I was lost out of my mind, lol) and 2) when I did my follow up letter, I said how nice it was to meet the receptionist and the supervisor, along with the big boss!
People can just be so thick sometimes

You're absolutely right, and when you leave a message, don't ramble through the phone number where you can be reached. I get so annoyed when people speak so slowly leaving the message and then they speed through the number so I have to listen to it again!!! ![]()
As for the receptionist thing, not only did you bring up a good point, but sometimes the person sitting in reception is actually a higher up in the company and they're just helping out. So you might actually be rude to the very person that's going to interview you!!!
