This is only my opinion, since I have only attended rehearsals for church weddings:
I think he should def. attend the rehearsal. The officiant usually leads the rehearsal. Without the officiant being there, how will anyone in the party know the details of the ceremony (where to stand, etc.)? Does he plan on giving you all the info prior to the rehearsal? Maybe you can find out from your BM (or other officiants) if this is the norm?
I'm kind of worried now, because we are also getting married at the RH and hope this isn't an issue for us:(

Re: Officiants and rehearsals
So funny you posted this because I am also using an officient (actually two) since we're also getting married at the hall....My FH and I just brought this up the other night to each other...I better give them a call to see what the deal is.
Keep me posted with what happens!

Re: Officiants and rehearsals
I would ask either your officiant or someone in the office of your place of worship who will attend. At my sister's rehearsal several years ago, the deacon who co-performed her wedding was present, but not the actual priest. Maybe someone from the office runs all of the rehearsals?
I kinda agree with you though - I believe the person performing your wedding should be present at the rehearsal. But if you are having two officiants, I would think one is ok - but that is JMO.

I was told the same thing! Although he did say if we 'really thought' he should be there he would.
My reception hall said the BM runs everything and assured me repeatedly we do not even need a rehersal. They will do a little run through ahead of time in the Bridal Suite.
Details of course will be ironed out with the officiant when we finalize vows and readings and such a few days prior.

Re: Officiants and rehearsals
We used Fr. Tom McCormick (found him on here) and he had another wedding at the time of my rehearsal so he wasn't able to attend. It really wasn't a big deal, I ran the rehearsal at the RH. I just lined everyone up in their places and we practiced walking a few times (we had some kids and teenages who had never been in a wedding before). Ask if your bridal attendant from your RH is available, ours was there and she helped too!!

Re: Officiants and rehearsals
I JUST got a message from my pastor yesterday about this very subject & what she said makes a lot of sense.
She said at rehearsals - she typically stands there and catches the people walking up the aisle. She said the maitre' d typically tells people when to go and walk and etc..
What she does is an hour before the ceremony, she'll rehearse with everyone because it's very fresh in their minds then....

Re: Officiants and rehearsals
My officiant charges extra for the rehearsal. Therefore, we are not having a real rehearsal. We made charts of where everyone is to stand and gave everyone the rundown at our 'rehearsal dinner'. Since we'll be seeing each other ahead of time anyway, we'll run through it when we get to the hall, 2 hours before the ceremony.

Mine didn't come either, we did a rehearsal of our vows at our second visit with him and then we had a rehearsal at the reception hall. The matre'd and bridal attendant were there and went through everything with me. Everything went really smooth that day.

Yea, it's possible that him having another obligation was just a line. But he did perform a great ceremony for us so I can't complain!!

Re: Officiants and rehearsals
Haven't booked mine yet but also having ceremony at RH. I've heard a few differnt things: yes they go to rehersal (day or 2 before) and let everyone know the plan, no they don't come, or they do a rehersal earlier in the day the day of (which works if you are planning to see eachother before the ceremony). Probably have to work that out with the individual officiant.

Never thought about bridal attendant helping out. They have to know everything! I'm sure they've seen it all.
