Hugs your way, I totally understand how you feel!!!
Some things to think about is possibly making a lateral move into another company if you do not expect a promotion from this job. Or alternatively, do you have any network channels that you know of in your industry? What about some alumni from your school (you'll be surprised that some schools have lifelong career advice/support services and help alums with networking).
I suggest quietly looking around, you never know what opportunities can arise, especially after bonus time.
Stay strong and don't cry!!!

I had that Lara!!! I hear you!!! I would everyday walk into work with my head held high and happy and throughout the day I would be beat up so that when I came home I was miserable... I work for praise- call it lower than normal self-confidence, and this ******* of a boss could see right threw me!!! I was yelled a everyday, berated, asked to do work over just to make himself feel better.... FI begged me to leave because I was miserable and quite honestly, it interfered with life outside of work... I was hyperexcited fridays and cried on Sundays!!! The day after I quit, FI came home from work- I was sitting on the couch and he saw me andI smiled at him- a real smile.... He said 'what a gift this is!!! Haven't seen a real smile in so long! so beautiful' It was worth it!!! They have you for a few hours! They don't have your soul... Life is too f-ing short!

I don't have a mean boss but sometimes it is the customers. They can be so cruel. And if they say something to you, we can't say anything to them.

Sorry I have no advice but am sorry for you I have to say my night supervisor on our hospital floor is the BEST!!! He is so easy to get along with and we make jokes with him all the time. I invited him and his wife to the wedding. On a sad note, he lost his only daughter (age 21) last year. It just ****s that bad things happen to good people.

Lara,
do you think having a private conversation with that mean boss of yours would help the situation? Have you ever tried telling him how you feel? What about his superiors? Is there an HR department or is it a very small company? May be you can honestly tell him that you love working for the company, but would like to be treated with a little more respect!
Please, don't make your job your whole life! We ALL tend to do that sometimesand have to remind ourselves that our office life is not everything, even though we do spend so much time there and people there realy upset us a lot of times! Please, cheer up! Sorry can't help you much but sending lots of positive energy your way! I am so sorry you have to go through this right now, when you should be spending energy on the wedding and be positive and exited about your big day! Please do stay positive! People can be such a88holes to others it's unbelievable!

Lara, just responding with some hugs for you!
I wish I could help... Some people are on such tremendous power trips that in order to make themselves feel superior they make others feel like crap. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Atleast you are standing up for yourself more! I hope tomorrow is better for you!

Re: Anyone else have a boss that makes her cry? LONG
The first job I ever had my boss made me cry on a daily basis. She was nasty and I think her goal in life was to make me look like a fool infront of everyone. She use to even sabatoge my work so it looked bad and no one would do anything because she was at the firm so long, so I really feel for you . The only thing I can say is to start looking for another job. Even if it is a lateral move to another company. Anything is better than going to work with a knot in your stomach and dreading the next thing to come out of your bosses mouth.
I lasted at that company for 1 year and the satisfation of quiting was more than I can say. My next job was much better and in hindsight, my ex boss's negativity and nastiness made me a strong and better worker.
Good luck...I hope things get better for you!!!

I am so sorry you have to put up with this. Is it possible for you to work with someone else or speak to someone in HR? I am sure this violates some sort of company policy, regardless of how laid back our company is.
I hope tomorrow is a better day

That's horrible! I have many people that I work with, I never use the words they work 'under me'. I am grateful for their hardwork and efforts and would never demean them or embarrass them. Unfortunately, the field I work in is full of egomaniacs and I have seen many women brought to tears. I can understand you reasons for staying but, seriously consider leaving there as soon as you can. It is not healthy for you mentally and physically to be in an environment that is causing such emotional stress.

Re: Anyone else have a boss that makes her cry? LONG
I understand where you're coming from. At my last job my boss was so unbearable - she would yell at me for things that I didn't do and in the end I would find out that she did it and she would yell at me in front of the whole floor. Everyone would tell me how they couldn't understand how I worked for her. That she was a b&tch, etc. Finally after 9/11 - I realized life was too short to have to deal with this crap. So, before I marched in and quit. I went to the HR person and HER BOSS - which both of them begged me not to quit - so, it made feel good that at least I was somewhat appreciated there for all the hardwork I put in. I think it was about 3 months after I left - that I found out that she was fired!!!!! hahahahahaha All of her major acct.s pulled there stuff because they hated dealing with her (when I worked there, I did everything -including her job- so, I was the one dealing with all the clientele). I guess mgmt. got wind and canned her @ss.
I think if you're not happy, you should definitely look into speaking to someone above them or HR - because you could sue not only the person, but also the co. for allowing that kind of harrassment to go on. I'm sure once your boss realizes this - things will change for the better.
Good luck with things.

Try to stick it out until after the wedding & honeymoon.
I once worked for a jerk as well. He was horrible and I finally got away when the right job opportunity came my way. Since then I have learned that he got fired and has yet to find a job....so what goes around, comes around.
Just do your job and try to correspond with via email only, so you don't have to put up with his crap and you can cover yourself as well.
