They can, but call the hospital and tell them you can't pay it, and they usually cover it. or if they won't do that, ask them why it took them 4 years to bill it, and that you want to refuse payment on it.

Why did it take so long for them to send it? Is this the first time you are hearing about it?

I think there is a 3 year statute of limitations on those things.. And why didnt they go through your insurance? Hmmm sounds odd to me..
