this is a tough one. being that they did give u $$ it is kind of hard to deny the younger guests that they want to invite. as for the RD also a tough one. because they are paying for it, i think you have to abide by their wishes. do the extra people really need to be @ the RD? i know b4 i came to LIW, i never knew people invited OOT guests to the RD, i always thought it was for the bp & parents only, which is how i am keeping mine.
What if you offered to pay for your OOT guests at the rehearsal dinner? What could she say to that? Turn about is fair play, and if they are very close family, I don't see why they couldn't be there. Especially if they came a long distance.
Add on anyone you want but realize that you may have to pay for the additional people. Tell your parents that they will need to pay for the additional guests they want invited to the rd.
Maybe you can come to some kind of compromise? Our RD was just BP/readers and their dates/families and our immediate families....but after that we opened it up and had an OOT welcome reception type of thing....it was actually really great to get to see everyone before the big day!
My FIL's agreed to pay for all of their friends....around 60 of them. You have 3 weeks to go, so you can't go and start negotiating....well maybe you can. Can you ask them for more money?
This is a tricky situation....I think you should invite and include those OOT that are staying w/ your parents, b/c they are family. And offer to pay for their plates. Or if you think FIL's would be offended maybe just explain to your fam from OOT that it's just for BP and maybe get them movie tix for the night to do something fun together at minimal cost.
