Re: Spinoff to parents having a say in child's wedding...
if you know that she is very controlling, i would go with thank you but its not necessary. maybe they will give you a more generous gift in the end.

I would have FH nip this in the bud immediately before it gets out of control. If she's willing to pay for her guests, that's wonderful, but it's still your wedding, not hers. That's wonderful she's taking an interest, but those were dangerous words. You and FH decide the cake, not the parents.

I agree with Christine. If you can do without her help, I would say thank you, but no thanks, to save your peace of mind

We can do it without their help. but, there guest list is about 100, and we would prefer not to do it without their help as far as the guests are concerned. And to answer the OP, FH has spoke to her about it, but to no avail.
they want to invite 100 people??? are your serious?? do you know these people??? my entire wedding is only 125 people

I agree with Terri and Amanda. I can see this situation getting out of control.

i'm sorry but i don't understand big weddings. to each's own. but my friend just got married and had over 300 people at her wedding & when i asked her if she knew who was there, she said she didn't know most of the people that were there.

If you don't want her to have a say I wouldn't accept the money.

Well, just to give you a little backround...my father is one of 4 children, who all have 3 or more children, who are married, etc etc.....our family and friends alone are 200.....we are cutting out a lot of people , believe it or not....I'm hoping not everyone will be able to make it...lol
well if i have a problem making my minimum i will be sure to ask if i can borrow a few of your guests. lol
