ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!!! But look realistically at your budget and go from there. If it makes you have to skimp on your wedding don't bother. Your wedding is all that counts in the long run!

Re: Engagement Party - Help!
My opinion right now is if I wasn't swamped with work I would say yes its worth it. All the aggravation I have had at work and then doing little things non-stop for the eparty has really worn me down. Also b/c we chose the wrong time to have it, at the peak of my busy season! Talk to me in 3 weeks, my mind will change then.

Re: Engagement Party - Help!
I loved our eparty, we had a 2 year engagement and the eparty was thrown for us right in the middle. It made the whole wedding thing seem a lot more real, as at the time it was still so far away. It was the first time our two families had celebrated together, and it was a really wonderful day.

I would say definitely its worth it as well. You could always have a backyard party (which we did and it was perfect) or have a cocktail party in a bar/restaurant. Both options would be festive and ALOT cheaper than having a 'mini-wedding'

Re: Engagement Party - Help!
I have been debating this issue for months myself. I explored all my options. Where would the least expensive one be? I checked out Yacht Clubs, Parks, and now we finally made a decision. We are going to have about 75 people also. And that will burn a hole in our pockets!
So the final decision is, we are having it in FH brothers back yard. CASUAL! I don't want nor am expecting gifts from everyone. This is just an oportunity for our families to finally meet after 3 1/2 years! I am going to do volleyball, horseshoes, etc. BBQ.
But It was either this or nothing. Because we really couldn't afford much more! Good luck!

We aren't having as many people but we are going to have 40 - 45 people. We're going to do it in the room a Greek Restraunt. The most expensive quote we've heard is $40 dollars so we're still loooking. I want to do it to make the whole thing seem more real! It will be pretty casual but nice to have everyone get together!

have one in the backyard, and save lots of money, and you probably will get enough back in money and gifts

My parents paid, so it's easy for me to say go for it, but something low-key is fine too (we had 82 people also). It's nice to see everyone excited for you and the families getting together.

Re: Engagement Party - Help!
We had one but it was a sticky time. FILs aren't crazy about me (very very long story) but we had it at the clubhouse in my dad's apt complex. It was still fun even if awkward between the two families. What was great is that we get a lot of gifts off our registry, then about 6 months later we finally found a house, and already had a lot of the things we needed for it because of the e-party. I say why not? If you are concerned about the cost, make it casual and just rent a clubhouse if you know anyone who lives in an apt complex. It doesn't have to be elaborate. But do what works for *you and your FH*, that is what is most important.
