To clarify: Thank you for all your comments. I am not offended by you offering your opinions, however, most comments did not directly address the question I was asking, so I didn't feel the need to have this thread continue. I would love to extend my engagement another year, however, due to my circumstances we have set an approximate date for a reason. I also already have an extremely small budget and have settled in a lot of areas (Thursday night wedding, small guest list, no limo, no videographer, cheaper catering hall, cheaper dress, no bathroom baskets, no hotel gift bags, no day of coordinator, no rehearsal dinner, no calligrapher, no band, DIY invitations, etc.) and I will still need extra money. So do you actually think I want to take out a loan? Because I don't think anyone wants to have to take on a loan. It's not like I need a loan to have an extravagant production, for some unlucky people it is out of circumstance and it would be nicer if some people tried to respect that more. And that's my opinion.

Re: Taking Out A Wedding Loan?

I'm not taking out a loan but..

I think that's just considered a personal loan. It depends on the lender what criteria you have to meet. Frankly, if you're doing this go shopping. Don't just settle for your usual bank. Go into all of them and get all the info you can. I work at a bank and have an account at a 2nd bank. I wouldn't get a loan with either because I know there are better out there.

Re: Taking Out A Wedding Loan?

I know you didn't ask for opinions but JMO I think it is a bad idea to take out a loan in order to get married...you don't want to start out your new life together in debt. If it were me I'd have a longer engagement so we could afford everything or I'd pare down the wedding to something we could afford.

Sorry if I offended you, but its something I feel very strongly about.

ITA. I wouldn't go into debt just to get married. FH and I spoke about this when we first got engaged and that's why we decided to get married in 2011..to allow ourselves more time to save money.

I agree. You should try to find other ways to pay for your wedding or delay as much as possible so that you do not have to take out a loan.

Not worth hearing about it.

Sorry....you asked a question and everyone LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES giving their opinions.

I just paid for my own wedding- EVERYTHING myself, we never touched DH's money, so I can understand how overwhelming it can seem.

Here's my advice- see what banks are still offering personal loans...many might not because of tightened credit requirements. See if Capital One/Citi are offering anything.

Otherwise, if you have a 401K you can take out a loan from that.

Yea, yea....neither is ideal.....debt....blah, blah, blah. In the end NONE OF US know your circumstance so we can't tell you what makes sense.

Save as much as you can and try these options as well if need be. Don't forget that tax returns will help- so file ASAP You may have to incur some debt but I'm sure you'll be able to pay off what you need to after the wedding.

Good luck to you!
