They don't have a right to be mad, if you were just not showing up to help thats one thing, but you have a legit reason why you can't be there. Plus you are still going to the shower so I don't see why it should be a big deal. I would talk to your friend who's shower it is (as long as its not a surprise) and tell her what happened. Im sure she would understand why you can't be there to set up. Hope it all works out for you.
