No not at all. I have already purchased supplied to make a special poem for our parents and I am going to purchasing materials to make my menus. I also have already purchased paper to make my RD invitations and I am getting married around the same time as you.

NO. TRUST ME. Get the teeny stuff out of the way. You'll be SO happy you did the weeks before the wedding!
Wait, edited...you're talking about doing the programs now? That you should wait on. You have to wait to speak with your clergy before that anyway. But favors...I wish I had started those 6 months ago.

Re: too early
I think it's too early for some of that stuff.
What if you change your mind on the color, or type or how you want to go about doing it? I would wait on those things..

Re: too early
I would wait a little bit. You can look for things, and unless you get the bargin of the century, I wouldnt buy anything yet. I am all for doing things ahead of time but sometimes if you do it too soon, and you change your mind about a theme or color, if you have already bought stuff you will be stuck with it. Your programs will not be done for over a year from now. Why dont you think about your favors. Are they something that you are making? We made CD's so we started on them almost a year before we got married...pulling the music, designing the cover.

Re: too early
Jenny -
I'm getting married a week after you and I am doing the same things (starting the CD's, program template, etc.) The other thing I've been spending some time on is the guest list - using a guest list manager program to sort by guest of/shower invite/wedding invite/alist/blist...etc.
You're totally on schedule!

Re: too early
I agree as far as colors and programs and dresses that it is too early- but some of the other stuff- I booked my hall a year and a half in advance and did not do anything for ages after- I am regretting it because now there is so much to do my head is spinning.

Re: too early
If you are 100% sure it's what you will be using, then go ahead and start working on it now. Personally, I had a ton of ideas and plans that changed as the planning went along and I ended up wasting a lot of money doing this.

Re: too early
I agree, slow down, I mean its up to you, but I changed my mind already about a lot of stuff and I am so happy I found out about other options before I bought the materials etc. I decided to incorporate monograms etc. so its good I can still incorporate it into a lot of things so my wedding doesn't look random and everything goes together. Just print things out, keep your mind on them but keep looking. In the end you'll be more confident. From your posts, it looks like your too scattered- I would focus in on a few projects-they will come out better!

Re: too early
I have had a two year engagement, and did a lot (booked vendors, thought about favors etc) early. IMO, you may want to hold off on the small stuff until you get closer to your wedding. For example, if you had asked me last August what my favors would be, I would have said CD favors- but we have since decided not to do those. If I had started early, I would have put that work in for nothing. I also thought my programs would look totally different than they look now.
I found in a long engagement, there are periods where you can be very busy, and times where you may wonder 'whats next?' because you dont feel anything pressing. Enjoy your planning process, and do it at your own pace. If it makes you happy to do it now, go for it, if you change your mind later that is no big deal.
