Re: To those doing donations as favors...
I have been thinking about that as well. I am wondering if guests would be happy with the idea or just annoyed by it. I guess every guest would have a different reaction.

Re: To those doing donations as favors...
I don't think that you should say how much you are going to donate. I just went to a wedding and it said that they donated to a society and I thought that it was nice. I think if guests ask how much you gave, it is rude!!
Plus you may think that you donated a lot but to other people it might not seem like a lot at all. Best not to get mixed reactions on the day about donating - if you don't put an amount everyone will just think that it was nice that you donated to something.

Re: To those doing donations as favors...
I think it is totally rude for a guest to question your donation. I really doubt any would. I'd have a small card framed at each table telling guests what you did, or maybe have a line on the bottom of the menu stating that 'In lieu of party favors BRIDE and GROOM have made a donation to CHARITY'
If anyone asks how much the response should be 'an appropriate amount' or better yet no response at all...

i agree that it is totally inappropriate for a guest to question your donation to a charity (now if it were a donation to something like your own honeymoon fund, that is a different story ) some charities will provide scrolls for each of your guests.

Re: To those doing donations as favors...
You DO NOT have to tell people how much you donated, and NO ONE but those with absolutely no tact would ever ask. People will not disbelieve something like that, b/c only the slimiest people would say they gave to charity without doing it. As for certificates, not all charities do it. We are making our own little certificates, and we are putting a newsletter or some other item from the charity on the table so that people can learn more about it if they want to.

I agree, it is a rude question. When we were guests at a wedding that did this, a scroll was on the table and I thought it was very nice. Anyway, people usually wrap up Hershey kisses or something else cheap with it...
If it is dedicated to someone I think your guests would appreciate even more because it is personal...
