The appraisal costs is determined bu the appraised amount (a percentage) but they appariased the highest value. It's worth the trip in.

I agree with Jenn. My best friend's ring was appraised at almost double what he paid.

Jenn--when they do the appraisal..do they do it in front of you or take the ring away? I'm a little scared to let it out of my sight!

There is absolutely no way I'd let the e-ring out of my site. They should appraise in front of you, or bring you to where they appraise.

Stupid question? Does the ring have to be appraised b4 it's insured or is it all the same thing? I *still* haven't gotten my ring insured.

I went to Macys Herald Sq. You need the appraisal cert to get your ring insured. You may also need the GIA cert. My insurance co. did.

You should definately go The Jewelry Judge. They are really good and are known by a lot of jewelers. Whenever I tell any jeweler where I got it appraised they say that they are really good. You should always go to someone that specializes in just appraising (does not sell jewelry). They do it right in front of you and don't take the diamond out either. My ring is 1.25 carats and it costs about $80.
