It definitely will not hurt to ask for a raise. I understand that you are close, but you will both need to separate business from personal in this matter. You can try explaining that you are coming across some major life changes (which I'm sure he already knows), and that if you are going to breaking your neck for him full time, then it has to be beneficial to you. it's worth a shot to ask. Explain to him everything you explained to us and see what he says. It's good business ethics to give you a raise, considering you've been such a dedicated worker, ya know?
