I want to get my DH the Sirius thingie so that he could listen to his precious Howard. I want one that he could listen in the car and at home...so I saw this one:
SIRIUS Starmate Replay Receiver
It's on sale at Radio Shack...my question is, willhe be able to listen to 'live' broadcasts with this system? Also, can he use it in the car and at home?
If not, can you recommend a system that has what I want, pref. not over $150?
Does this one have what I want? Or is it for sports only?
SIRIUS Sportster Receiver with Car Kit
Thanks much!

Re: XP from LIF: HELP with Sirius!
Ok I got the scoop on this. Basically the first set that you show is for the car. You get the unit with an antenna to put on the trunk and the docking station that you put the unit in so that ihe can listen to it through the speakers in the car. (Wireless). You can also buy another docking station that he would take with him to the office or home and he needs to connect it to a radio/stereo system.
The second thing you show is similar. It still comes with the stuff you need for the car but for the home/office you would buy a boombox that you put the actual unit in. So, you don't need a docking station to connect to a stereo because the boombox is the stereo.
With the Sirius service you'll have the same 125 channels with either one you buy.
A difference between the two besides what I mentioned above is that the 2nd one has a multiple line display where the 1st only shows 2 lines on the screen. Not a huge deal in my opinion.
Hope this helps! My sister just bought one for her husband and was going crazy trying to figure out what he needed so I did some research

Re: XP from LIF: HELP with Sirius!
I am so frustrated. I thought I had an easy gift for DH, but I just got back from Best Buy and it seems like there is no way to listen to Sirius on the train. The guy there said that there was one I could buy for home use and he could record Howard everyday. But then how does he listen on the train??? I can't believe they haven't made one that can be used on the train!?!?!?!? Does anyone know if this is correct?
TIA!! I'm so upset. Now I have no 'big thing' to give him, only lots of little things.
ETA: Februarybride: where did you find your research? Maybe I could find some info. there. Thanks!

You're too cute Amy!
Sirius is making a killing this holiday season and it's all thanks to Howard Stern! I hope he's getting a HUGE cut in their $$$! If I realized this...I would have purchased stock!
It's all crazy to me too, but luckily we have the whole XM shebang free. We're XM people for a couple of reasons...Not Howard fans and HUGE baseball fans!!!! No baseball on Sirius...only football.

I think there is something that is portable (ipod size) but it's not a live feed. So he would only be able to listen to things that he recorded. Not exactly what your looking for, I think. Got my info from a nice salesman at radioshack. I just asked him a ton of questions!
