XP: Shower Question

XP: Shower Question

We are having a small wedding (immediate family, aunts & uncles and close friends). I figured if I had a shower those would be the people invited.

Apparently some of my cousins asked my mom if she intended to invite the entire family to my bridal shower because they would really like to celebrate my wedding with us. They understood FH and I wanted a small wedding but hoped the shower would be for everyone. I thought inviting people who arent invited to the wedding is just asking for gifts, but my mother told me that when she got married (in the 60s) the shower and wedding didn't have to go off of the same guest list.

What do you guys think?

I think that if your cousins know beforehand that they're not going to be invited to the wedding and if they are okay with just coming to the shower, then it's okay to invite them to the shower if you want them there.
But, if they're coming to the shower with the expectation that they're going to receive a wedding invitation, then you might have some problems & hurt feelings when they start to wonder where their wedding invitation is.
As long as they understand the whole situation, I think it's fine to invite them.

I think if people are aware of the situation its a good way to celebrate with people who wont be at the wedding

Thanks for the input - I don't know if everyone knows we are planning a small wedding - I think I'll talk to my Mom some more about it, see if there is anyway to do without making people feel obligated.
