Ok so someone posted on the 2011 board a picture of a cake (that i am assuming belonged to a 2010 bride because she said she purchased the brooches and the cake topper).... anyway i fell head over heels in love with the cake and emailed the picture to my baker... the cake is included with the reception hall and i have 30 options to choose from... the pictured cakes look like they are made with fondont (i want icing) and many have bows on them that have notes that you need to supply the ribbon.....
So the cake below has two bows that are made from gumpaste- but the baker said to have this cake (which is similar to many of the included cakes, but much prettier) i would need to pay upgrades:
$555 for gumpaste bows and fondont $290 for gumpaste bows and icing $97 for icing and ribbon bows
Mmm... Only that FOR UPGRADE? I think that is too much... but i dunno since my cake comes include already.

my cake was supposed to be included as well.... i want icing so in a sense the only thing i am paying the upgrade for are the gumpaste bows.... so it would be $290 for two bows!!!!!! which i think is crazy but i love love love this cake

if you love the cake and if it's only going to cost you around $300 do it. IMO $300 is not worth settling for a different cake. $300 a year/two years from now will be nothing. JMO though.

Re: Xpost- cake upgrades- is it too much??
i say go for it. most of my friends that are already married had caekes that were 'included with teh hall'.... when push came to shove, they ended up paying x amount for this extra, and x amount for this. im planning on shelling out $500 max for my cake that is included in the hall lol (just bc of all the stories everyone told me)
if you like it and you can afford it - go for it. its your wedding! :)

I am in love with this cake and brought a picture of it to the bakery who is doing my cake (cake is not included in our RH) and was quoted $800 for it- we were charged more because of the filling we wanted. So I say go for it. It is a gorgeous cake and in the end $300 will seem like nothing compared to all the other costs.

I would go for the fabric ribbon and icing upgrade. The other ones are crazy expensive.

if you love it go for it. 290 i think is resonable. my cake is coming in at a little over a grand for 4 tiers because of sugar flowers and high tiers my cake is not included in the hall

that seems like a lot!!! altho i have noooo idea about this stuff and ps that was me who posted it...im obsessed with that cake too!!!!
did you try FM the 10 bride who had the cake and asking her what she paid?
I would ask around a few bakeries to see what they say
and I dont think im a fan of using ribbon, i dont think it will look the same.
if it was me id prob end up shelling out the 297 for icing and bows

Ya you posted it for the cake topper but I don't know which 10 bride had this cake. I'm afraid the ribbon won't look as nice

I say go for it. I remember my sister's wedding and how unhappy she was with her cake.
