Re: Xpost - For Those Who Spent Mucho On Their HM
This is probably not what you're expecting to hear but Tahiti was my first choic of HM location. We opted not the splurge on that and went the Mexico instead. Because we saved thousands on the trip itself, we had more spending money. We did 9 different excursions, shopped a lot and spent a total of 12 days there. A close friend of ours went to Tahiti and when we looked at their HM pictures vs ours we are glad we did what we did. Yes, they had a bungalow over the water but they didn't do anything. I would be bored out of my mind because both DH and I are very active. Plus they rarely dine out because food was so expensive there. So it really depends on what YOU want for your HM. If you are okay with splurging the money and still feel you have excess money to explore while .int Tahiti, I say go for it. Also, if you're only going to Tahit for a few days, I say it's not worth it because you will end up spending 2 days on the plane so make sure you stay for at least 1-1/2 weeks. Good luck!

We spent around that much for a luxury honeymoon to Greece. We stayed at the best hotel in Santorini and in their honeymoon suite. Yes it was expensive, but it was a once in a lifetime trip. We never worried about getting to and from the attraction since our hotels were in the center of everything! In Athens, we had a balcony that looked straight onto the parthenon.
I would definitely do it again if I had a second chance.

We are spending that much on Hawaii but my friend went to Tahiti and spent that much as well and said there is not that much to do there. She said you just go to the beach that's it - they have a few excursions but not many. So if you want to relax and do nothing then this would be the place for you but I would definitely be bored.

This is great info...b/c I wanted to go for 2 weeks. Clearly that's too long. I hear Fiji has a bit more to do

Thaiti was on our list, but because it was super expensive, especially to get an overwater bungalow, we found an alternative place to go to. We went to Brazil which I think is pretty exotic and stayed at a wonderful 5 star resort called Nannai. And they had overpool bungalows so it was pretty cool! We spent about $5500. That was 8 nights and RT flights from NY. Plus money for lunch and drinks and massages added another $300. Bfast and dinner were included. Plus we spent $$ on day trips. And DH bought himself a guitar. So we prolly spent around $6300 for the trip.

abso-freaking-lutely
i looked forward to the HM more than the actual wedding, and went budget on most aspects of the wedding so I could spend a ton on the HM. we went to Italy Greece and Croatia.... I'm sure we spent somewhere around $15 - $20k, though I did myself a favor and never tallied it all up

We went to FP for 2 weeks, only stayed in Bora Bora but did 2 resorts. I have to say I absolutely loved it. Everything was expensive it truly was paradise. There really isnt much to do- at all. It depends on what you are looking for. Both Vin and I did not want to do anything but veg. We had a lot of no wedding related issues before and needed some serious r&r. Just when we got bored we went to vegas for a week to party it up
Would I do it again- absolutely!! I would love to go back, however, if I was ever going to spend close to 20k again on a trip I would see another part of the world.
It truly is a personal decision. You have to be able to not regret the$$ spent and if you think you might then opt for another option. I do not think it is possible to NOT enjoy yourself on your honeymoon- no matter where you go or how much you spend

We went to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora!
Yes, it was expensive. but we had a wonderful time. We did an excursion every day..and sometime we did two. We stayed in over water bungalow in Moorea and Bora Bora.
It was worth it for us.
We were even thinking of going back for our 2nd anniversary...but we had a all expense paid trip to China that came up right before our 2nd Anniversary. So, maybe tahiti for our 3rd Anniversary.
