So tonight FH and my parents and I went out to dinner. We discussed our engagement party and what we were going to do. At first we wanted to have it at my parent's house, but with both sides of guests, it comes to 70 people and that won't fit. So my dad suggested doing a 3 hour cocktail party with passed hors d'oeuvres at a place. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking to spend no more than $35-$40 per person. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. I'm going to post this on 08 and BHB, so forgive me if you see it everywhere. I'm trying to do this for February, so I want to start contacting places as soon as possible. TIA!!!

your wedding is this june? its real close to your wedding date, usually they say to do it about a year before the wedding or 6 months the least. You'll also be having a shower around the same time so your guests would have an e-party plus a shower within the same month or about a month apart and then the wedding about 4 months later.

I agree it is too late to have an engaement party. If i was invited to one that close to the wedding I would be like 'WHAT ' JMHO

We have to do it then for a bunch of different reasons, and it's been pushed off for a lot of reasons too. The main point is to have a cocktail party for our bridal party and family to meet before the wedding. We've had a lot of different things go on in the last 7 months since we've been engaged that have pushed off a party for us. First his sister's engagement and subsequent wedding and everything around that occupied his whole family. Then my grandfather passed away. Now I'm in retail and work constantly and can't commit to a weekend until after holiday. 2 weeks after Christmas Mike and I are going to Argentina for 2 weeks to meet my family, etc. We get back Feb 2. So it has to be pushed off til February and it just is what it is. None of our family really know each other, except a few people that came to my grandfather's wake, so we'd really like to get our bridal parties and family together. And we can't fit 65 people at my parent's or his, so it has to be at a place. I really just want to do a cocktail party to be less formal, not a dinner. I'd super appreciate any ideas for places. I've already contacted the Metropolitan in Glen Cove. Thanks again guys.

i think that calling it a meet and greet sounds like a better idea then calling it an eparty...it is really close to your wedding...if it is a meet and greet, it should only be family and BP, and specifically ask for no gifts, bc as previous posters said, you will be having your shower not too long after that
