Does anyone have any experience with this? I would not do it myself, I would get a professional. I heard some people say it looks messy but others say it could turn out nice when a professional does it. I have these horrible tiles from the 70s that I can't bear to look at but I can't afford to re-do the whole bathroom. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Xpost: NWR: Painting bathroom tiles
My friend and I did it in her first apartment. It truthfully didn't look bad. We did it ourselves but went to Home Depot and bugged the paint guys for tons of advice and you do have to get a special kind of paint.
It doesn't last forever though - by the time she moved out (about 2 years later) it was starting to look really ragged.

my sister had her tiles in her old bathroom 'reglazed' which I think is the same thing. I thought it looked good, but they were doing it in preparation to sell the house...so I'm not sure how it held up!

Ok well both of you made me feel a little better.. I know it wont be a permanent fix but being that we are just buying the coop now, I can't really afford to re-do everything. If it could hold me over for 2 years until I can save some $$ that would be great!

Have you thought of re-grouting? That's what DH and I did in our bathroom and it looks like new! And we have the old 70's type too and now I love it!

Can I change the color though? I have this horrible pink tile and I want it to be either white of cream colored.

the grout is the chalky stuff in between the tiles, it comes in different colors but ur best bet would be white bc it would look new.
If it's just for two years what about putting up a cool shower curtain and getting some nice bath accessories and a rug. Also what about hanging some things on the walls to hide the ugly tiles?

At bath fitters? I had never heard of it before my mom mentioned it so I was scared as to whether or not it was legit. At least now I know it is! lol!
I looked around though and it sounds almost as expensive as ripping out the tiles all together so I don't know if it's worth it for right now.

My mom did it in our basement bathroom in the house I grew up in...its been 6 years and it looks brand new!
I don't remember how expensive it was but they give you a free estimate and its DEF cheaper than gutting so its worth a shot?
