Personally I'd be honest-tell her you're not a fan of fur coats. If that doesn't work, tell her you don't like the fact that you're wearing dead animal-do you have any pets? I would say: 'What if they made '________' into a fur coat-would you wear it?' Good luck

I would just tell her it's just not you. Or you could say you don't like the way it fits. If it doesn't fit then she can't be insulted.

Can you post a pic though, Just curious what kind of coat it is.

that happened to me, my father bought me one last year for x-mas, but with him it was a bit different, he knew there was a chance i might not like it and said it would be no problem to take it back. I don't know just wasn't me. Short ones are ok on younger people but it just made me look like a kid playing dress up, hard to explain. Just wasn't my thing. He didn't mind at all and completely understood. Infact, when he saw me in it he completely agreed

my mom bought me a white coat with a fur trim.. I already have a white coat and I won't wear fur.. i felt sooo bad telling her I didn't want it, but it would have been worse I think if I took it and never wore it.

For starters, send her to the PETA website!!!!

Do you see her often? Maybe you can sell it on Craig's List or something and keep the cash. But if you see her alot and she'll expect to see it on you, you might just have to fess up that you don't like fur.

Tell her that you feel uncomfortable wearing something that is obviously worth a lot of money, you'd be more comfortable in something a little more modest...

I would be totally honest too. Just say it just like you explained it above. It was totally tactful, and you obviously don't want to seem unappreciative... you have your mom's intentions and wellbeing in mind... It's an honest misunderstanding, and its too pricey to shove in a closet...

Tell her you would hate to be wearing it, and someone throw paint on you (PETA). If it were me, my mom sees me all the time and would ask why I'm not wearing it. So, instead of having to lie, just tell her its too formal for you and you could really use the money for your wedding. GL

I wouldn't sell it or put it in the back of the closet!! If it were an ugly shirt you could get away with telling her you wore it yesterday, when she asks if you liked it. But something like a coat...she will expect to see you in it all winter long. And to sell it and get them money, isn't nice...it was a gift from your mom...not an annoying co-worker, whom you don't care about.

I would be honest with your mom. Tell her that although it was a lovely and thoughtful gift, for whatever reasons fur is not your style. Ask if she wouldn't mind you returning it. Suggest that with the money you receive back for it, you and your mother go shopping TOGETHER for a gift that you would much rather prefer. She may be upset that you didn't love the gift, but in the end she will appreciate your honesty in not selling it behind her back, or shoving it in the back of a closet. Good luck.

You can also say that you are scared to wear it...Some people actually are, especially going to the city. I see peta stuff going on all the time. Say that also alot of people you know are against fur...basically just say that you are uncomfortable wearing a fur coat
