Yarmulkes/Kippahs (sp?) ETA- and other Jewish ceremony stuff)
Original post by ChristineAaron08
Eventhough we are getting married at the RH and only FHs side is Jewish, FMIL thinks we should have yarmulkes.
Any suggestions on where to get them?
We dont like the poofy satin ones and want the suede ones.
The cheapest we saw as $1.95 each.
FH doesnt want them b/c its extra $ to spend on the wedding. I will let him battle that one with his mom.

Hi girls, im curious what is this?
What are yarmulkes and kippahs?
yes whats the meaning and whats involved..i just like to know...if i dont bother.
No bother at all. They're head coverings for men that they wear in temple. The little 'beanie caps' if you will.
ooooooooooooooooooooo duhhhhhhhhhhhh yamaka...lol i didnt recognize it...what is a kippah the same?
Yup, same.

we're debating getting them too. If we do order them, we'd probably be getting them from the zion lion in new hyde park. I'm not sure of their pricing but you can try calling them
I LOVE this Shards Wedding Glass Mezuzah!!!! Now i'm going to have to look for something similar but less expensive.
I was told to go to the east village, not really sure where. Maybe we'll start looking in another few months and we could probably pass some on to you if you want? Otherwise ask the rabbi, he might be able to give you the best idea.
I have one on my door i got one on the lower east side.....by delancey

I get annoyed too. I think it's kind of insulting. I purposefully used that term to be descriptive just in case anyone out there had zero reference as to what they looked like.......i hope the fact that I wasn't serious in that's what I call them came through, since I'm jewish myself. (I hate the internet sometimes, tone just does not translate )

They have really beautiful stuff, but it's not cheap. You can actually buy the glass that your FH steps on when you're married and keep the shards and they'll make a mezuzah out of it

I saw that on here actually a while ago. An 07 bride was doing it. My rabbi actually lives near a great judaica store in Westchester so he said he'd take care of it for me if I pick out what I like there beforehand.

i would try these
www.kippah.com www.yarmulkes.com www.yarmulke.com
They are all usually in Brooklyn, and when you order in bulk, it is usually cheaper. I think we ordered 275 or 300 and paid 350

It can be any old glass. Some people even recommend using a light bulb because it makes more of a popping sound when it breaks.
Also, you don't have to spend alot of money on a ketubah at all. You can get really simple standard ones for cheap that are still so nice to have and keep, ya know?
