Re: Yeah soooo much for my Ash Wednesday fasting
It took me years after catholic school to finally stop the freakouts of eating meat on Ash Wed and Good Friday. I have to tell myself 'If God seriously doesnt want me to eat a little bit of meat on 2 days a year and wont let me into heaven because of that....well maybe thats not a God I want to believe in'
Its such a stupid archaic rule made by MEN of the church that really needs to get gotten rid of along with no women priests and all the other stuff otherwise the Catholic church will be extinct soon

It doesn't mean you are going to hell if you slip and eat me, I believe he's a forgiving god. And you really arent suppose to meat every Friday during lent, not just for Ash Wed. and Good Friday.
I am not fasting though.. but good luck to those of you who can!
I am trying to give it up for the whole 40 days.... its so hard, you want all types of meat when you know you can't have it.

I did not fast yesterday, however I did not eat meat. We aren't super religious but I always was taught growing up not to eat meat on ash wednesday, fridays during lent and GOD FORBID on Good Friday...I didn't give anything up- BUT what I am doing durng lent is making more of an attempt to pray each night...I used to and just stopped but I realize that I have a lot to be thankful for, and lately I do need his strength so, I thought this was a good way to get started...

Me too in regards to the praying. FH was saying the same thing about being thankful and that he will start coming to church with me every Sunday.

Fasting and abstinence (not eating meat) during Lent were instituted through Canon Law (written by men) to make it easy for Catholics to fulfill their Lenten obligation, as required by divine law (written by God). You will not go to hell if you forget to do this. It is not a stupid archaic rule to those people who follow and believe in it. It is a rather simple way to bring God into our everyday lives, even if it is only for 40 days. There are many roles in the church that women take, of all the Orthodox religions, I'd say that Catholicism is the probably the most open in that respect and throughout history have shown a very high regard for women in general.

Re: Yeah soooo much for my Ash Wednesday fasting
I never fast, tho I didn't eat meat yesterday either. And to be honest it really wasn't on purpose, just worked out that way. That is until I got home at night and had some chicken soup, finished eating it when I realized that chicken is meat!! But I figured God would forgive me since I really didn't want the chicken, I just wanted to drink the broth.
