Yearbook advisor needs help with Theme (M)

Yearbook advisor needs help with Theme (M)

I admit, I am dried up! AFter 5 years of award winning books the staff this year is UGH>>>>for lack of a better term. They want to do a fairy Tale theme. That blows my mind. I teach at an all girls Catholic school. I am not happy with this theme (I know it is not my yearbook) but I am the moderator and I need to hold my head up. We have won awards the past 5 years. Any ideas from you creative ladies? The class in the 99th graduating class from the school. Next year 2005-2006 the school will celebrate its jubilee. Thanks for any help!

what will the theme encompass? just the design on the cover? the way things are worded in the book? it does seem kind of hard to do for a yearbook- i went to an all girls school, and we would always pick these themes that would not be as great on paper as the thought itself was, but i think that you can pull it in the right direction and still keep it respectable, but make them feel like 'they' designed this great yearbook.

FM me if you would like... maybe we could brainstorm?

good luck

Yikes...fellow yearbook adviser here (6th year)...I squelched that idea last year (the Fairy Tale theme...well, Fantasy, but same idea). Tell the girls that most fairy tales are anti-feminist, and that you wouldn't want them to erase forty years of good work!

I would suggest that you take a look at the stock covers for your company and see if any generate any ideas. If not, send some girls on some photo shoots around school, and see if anything interesting pops up in photos that you could use for the cover. Sometimes something looked at from a new/interesting angle can generate ideas.

If they are still stuck on fairy tales, I would force them to take a new twist on it...have the girl on the white horse, have the prince in need of saving...that sort of thing!

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forum mail me if you think I can help you further!

I agree that if they HAVE to have the fairy tale theme to go with a twist. Maybe bring the characters to the present day. If you can change their minds though, definately go with something else. I'm not sure what though...

What were the themes for the past 5 years?

2001: One of a Kind

2002: Where have you left your mark?

2002: Lasting Impressions

2003: Imagine......

2004: Opening Doors

2005: ?????????????????

I wanted to push for Synergy or Faith.....but just burning out....HELP......or it may be Shrek (and I think I may kill myself!)

I did look at the pre-made covers and most of them this year have a mascot related theme.

Shrek?

Don't burn out! Synergy and Faith sound tough to work with. You need a decent catchphrase or something. You really should try what I suggested earlier, and tell the girls that they must bring photos to a meeting by the end of the week, or else.

We've done 'When it's all said and done' (with a sunset beach motif and plays on the words 'say' and 'do' throughout) and 'In our element' (the sections were fire, water, earth, and air/wind) for the past two years. This year we are doing 'Changing Times' (new starting time for the school inspired us, and we're relying on photos from old yearbooks to show how our school has changed in the divider pages, etc.). You're welcome to borrow any ideas from there!
