Yellow vs Red Onions

Yellow vs Red Onions

What are the differences in these? Do they taste different? Do you use them for different things?

Sorry for the stupid question! Growing up my mom only used yellow onions so I have no idea!

I always use yellow onions in my cooking. But I always use red onions in salads and other recipes that call for raw onion. I think they have a bit more of a bite. Yellow onions are 'sweeter'.

I agree,,,red for salads. In a pinch you can use yellow in salads.

i always thought red onions were sweeter... I rearely buy them because I only use yellow onions when I cook. You learn something new everyday!!!

red onions are sweeter and can be used for salads and sandwiches - yellow onions are good for cooking, etc.
