Yesterday - Nail poilsh, today - UV gel

Yesterday I asked about what nail polish color you are wearing and many of you said French UV gel. My nails are pretty healthy on their own but I was wondering what are the pros and cons of UV gel? I going on my honeymoon in 4 weeks (Yes, 6 months BEFORE the wedding) and I'm wondering if I should consider getting a UV gel manicure.

Thoughts????

I LOVE UV!

I would definitely get it, and will for my wedding day just in case! I don't want any chipping!

It is amazing!

It is a gel nail polish that is set with UV, and it stays chipless for 2-3 weeks, then you soak it off in acetone

The OPI was harsh on my nails, but the Shellac brand is gentle

Ohhhhhhhh. Does it mess up the natural nail? This sounds like an amazing thing for wedding/honeymoon. Is it like fake nails, or using your same length nails, but just makes it un-chippable?

It is NOT a fake nail

It is set to your natural nail. I'd recommend the Shellac brand- it did not make my nails week. The OPI UV gel did weaken my nails

I did UV gels all summer!

PROs:
-color lasts until it grows out from the nail bed

CONs:
-more expensive
-ruins nails

My nails were for sh*t when I removed it for the last time in November. My nails were splitting left and right.

Finally my nails are grown in - and somewhat healthy, although not as strong as they had been...

I'm still considering them for my wedding and then again in July for my honeymoon. But I wouldn't do it for months without end like last summer.

I highly rec the UV gel

i know some girls have said they get damage but if they do it right you shouldnt have damage

do not allow the nail tech to file down the polish or use the electric buffer to take off the polis

the polish should be soaked in acetone or each nail wrapped with cotton and foil to get the polish off, the polish should literally fall off your nail

the only time I had damage is when they would file the polish down

I looooove the UV, its a flawless manicure for 2-3 weeks!

Definately good in terms of the non chipping problems you see with every day manicures. I woudl jsut say to make sure you take breaks and don't wear them more then 4 applications. My nails are starting to break and the nail tech recommended I take a breather before the wedding, since thats when I really want them anyway.

Can you only do this in French Manicure?
