Yet another invitation question (kind of on the long side... sorry)

Yet another invitation question (kind of on the long side... sorry)

Okay, so I've had quite a few meltdowns in the past few days. So much going on and that needs to be done all at the same time. And even though I'm the worlds biggest control freak (especially when it comes to my wedding), I agreed to relinquish control of address my invites and allowing my FFIL to do it. He's retired and really, really wants to help. We had a slight disagreement over the outer envelopes (I won that one). And now I'm going back and forth about the inner envelopes. I decided last night that to save my FFIL time and extra work, that the only inner envelopes he needs to address are the ones that would say 'and Guest' So, I put my list together for him and sent it on it's merry way. Well.... now FH, FFIL and MY mother are saying it's perfectly acceptable to have the 'and Guest' on the outer envelope. I personally have never seen this and think it will look bad. Can I get some advise and/or thoughts on this from you wonderful ladies?

I just have to add that we are almost at 500 guests on the guest list, so as you can imagine there are many, many, many envelopes to address!

I know this is the last thing I should be stressing over, but I'm a perfectionist. Everyone keeps telling me nobody is going to look at the envelope, that's going to be the first thing that gets thrown in the garbage.

TIA ladies!

A lot of people don't even have inner envelopes. so the 'and guest' would go on their outers.

500 guests?!

Honestly it is so sweet that he wants to help but you also have to gently remind him that you appreciate him helping you but if he is going to do the invitations in a way you dont like, then that isnt helping.

I personally didnt put anything on the inner envelopes at all because I got my calligraphy by hand for free from a friend and I didnt want her to do any extra work since she has carpal tunel (sp?) I dont think anyone noticed.

thank you so much ladies!

I have no problem telling him how I want the envelopes done. I had a slight bridezilla moment on him Monday afternoon while I was there dropping my addresses off. All in all, I have to say, I am getting wonderful in laws.

Yes, 500 guests....I stopped freaking out about it. We're fornuate enough that our folks are paying for the wedding (we're paying for all the 'extras') FH keeps reminding me, that they are paying for it, and if they want to invite everyone they've ever said hello to, then let them. What's important at the end of the day is that we're married. (he keeps me grounded and SANE!)

Thanks again, I feel better knowing that other's don't put anything on the inner envelopes.

it's definitely a matter of preference. On my inners I put 'Jane and John Smith'. Less formal and the woman's name first.

Ya know I completely forgot about an inner envelope altogether!

Yesterday a few days after my invites went out I was thinking about how I should have put 'Family' instead of Mr. & Mrs. and I realized that I would have done that on an inner envelope and that I didn't have an inner envelope.

I don't think its a big deal at all. I addresses all my invites with and Guest or Family. Some people do and some don't. Do what works best for YOU and YOUR family!

Good Luck!

I don't have an inner envelope so my 'and guest' is on the outside
