Yet another JOB question....

Yet another JOB question....

Sorry girls..hopefully I will get some kind of job soon so I can stop these stupid job posts..

Ok here is another question...

A former teacher of mine from HS ( who had me and my brothers) is now the Principal of a school on Long Island...its actually the same district where I handed my resume to the Superintedent (who also came from my home district)

My mom and FI say that I should call her!! I personally don't want to I think its way too pushy and rude...

What do you think?? What would I even say??

I would say go for it. You have nothing to lose.. unfortunately (but sometimes fortunate for us!) it is largely WHO you know when it comes to getting some teaching positions. Networking is worth it, so spread the word and put in a phone call. He/She might know of positions that aren't even going to be advertised about...and it's another connection!

Definitely call her, remember it's not what you know, it's who you know

Maybe she could get you in the door. I would call, but I am an assertive person

i don't think its pushy or rude - your not begging for her to give you a job - i mean you are qualified to be a teacher - you just need someone to open the door and let you in.

you earned every bit of the ability to teach - so what if you pull a string or 2 to get you in the door. you need a job - call her up and let her know you are looking for one.

Yes, call her. Take a deep breath and get up your nerve. She won't think you are pushy, you will look interested and eager to work.

I agree that you should call her. Just let her know that you dropped off your resume. Make some small talk and let it go from there. You have nothing to lose!

Def give her a call, it's worth a shot. What's the worst that could happen? You have to network, and she could be a huge asset to you. Let her know that you enjoyed being her student and you would love to work with her. HTH!!

Definitely call! Like others have said, it really is about who you know. The worst that can happen is that she doesn't have any openings right now.

Thats not the advice I was hoping for girls I wanted you to say...yes it is pushy Kathleen and Yes your FI and your Mom are wrong

Thanks for the advice...But I don't know where I am going to pull this nerve out of

Re: Yet another JOB question....

What about if I went over there tomorrow...to the school????

ETA..Just called the district and there are no openings supposedly

That could work. However you should make sure that she is there before you go so you don't waste your time. If it is easier for you to do this in person, then do it.

I mean its been 10 years since I graduated HS...so my concern is that she may not recognize my name but may recognize my face!

Re: Yet another JOB question....

As you can see I do not want to call her...I mean you think that I was being asked to do something major! I just hate calling people like this

I can understand that. Whatever you decide, just make sure you reach out to her. It can only HELP you! Just keep this in mind when you start to become anxious about contacting her.
