yet another PHOTOGRAPHER TIPPING question...

My Aunt (who has thrown 3 major parties at the Garden City Hotel in the past few years), suggested that it's best to hold off on tipping main photographers & videographers until you see the work product.

Has anybody done this/ intend to do this? It makes sense, but I think it might be weird not to give them a tip at the end of the day.

Thoughts?

It totally makes sense...but we tipped them that day. Especially my main photographer who came to my house and made me feel better in the midst of chaos. He managed to take pics even though I didn't have a dress, no one was there and my dad hadn't arrived. My second photographer was just as great and she worked 10 hours, staying till almost 1am. I felt they deserved a tip...if nothing more than for their great attitude and lighthearted sense of humor...not to mention how professional they were.

But in theory, your aunt is right.

Don't tip the owner, he makes the profits. Tip the people who work for him/ her.

Both my photographer and videographer own their business. Neither have huge studios and I understand about small business struggles...I tipped both.

I didn't tip them.

I was going to tip them when we got our final product. But, some other things factored into us changing our minds.

eta: both were owners of their companies
