is it true that you need to cover your elbows and shoulders under the chuppah?

Re: yet another question for jewish brides
I think it depends if you are Reformed, Conservative or Orthodox.
I am Conservative and just need to cover my shoulders.

Define true. At my jewish wedding I did not. I am not orthodox though. Are you having your wedding at a temple?

I'm not jewish, but at the last two jewish weddings I went to (in temples), both brides wore strapless dresses - with nothing covering their elbows or shoulders.

I do know that covering elbows is only for Orthodox.
I also wanted to add that I am covering my shoulders out of respect for my mother, not because my rabbi asked me to so. Since we are getting married by a reformed rabbi (interfaith) I wanted to honor a tradition that made her comfortable.

If your rabbi does require that your shoulders be covered, see if wearing a veil over your shoulders would be acceptable if you want to wear a strapless gown. This worked for a conservative friend of mine.

It really depends on your rabbi. I am getting married at a conservative temple and I know someone who got married there who wore strapless.
Orthodox definately cannot go bare they need to be covered.

Depends on your Rabbi and the type of ceremony you are having. If it's very conservative, then yes! Some rabbis require spaghetti straps, which is purely symbolic, because of course you can still see the shoulders and the arms. I was strapless, but had a long veil, so, technically, I was covered! Most rabbis are perfectly ok with that!
