I do not think my FILs are paying for the RH..we will probably pay for it ourselves

I have been in a BP were the FILs had the rehersal BBQ in their backyard and it was really nice so I think if you can have it at your parents go for that instead of making yourself crazy about it

traditionally, it's supposed to be the groom's parents who pay for the RD.

I see no problem in having a RD at someone's house. I actually find that to be a more personal setting for it.

I actually think it'll be more relaxing in prep for the wedding to have it in your home if your home can handle everyone who needs to come. I'd have no issue with that as the bride or as a guest.

Unfortunately with the cost of everything these days, custom flies out the window... We're not doing anything conventionally as far as money goes. I know your case is uh... sorta,... extreme but a lot of peopl are in the same boat. You'll figure it out

We are thinking about not having one. I have also been to a rehearsal dinner in someone's backyard. They had it catered and it was fine.

Ughhhhh...it stinks when people put in their two cents when they arent's asked for their opinion. I'm sorry you have to deal with this!!!! I also often feel like telling people, 'You're not paying it for it, so shut up!' lol. I've already thought about the rehearsal dinner as well. Considering that FH and I are paying for the entire wedding, that my father payed for the engagement dinner, and I know my mom and my girls will take care of the shower, I couldn't impose on anyone to pay for the rehearsal dinner. FH's parents aren't the richest people in the world and there is no way in the world I can ask them to contribute towards that. Anyway long story short, I would do the rehearsal dinner at my house or at FH's house and have both sides of the family cook and bring food, including us. I know they wouldn't mind that, and as long as you're surrounded by the people closest to you, everyone will be happy and have a great time.

I totally think it's fine to have a low-keyed RD somewhere, or even at your house.... MY FILs have not offered..nor do i think they will be hosting the RD being that they are flying in from Puerto Rico. My parents are probably going to have a little party at our house on New years Eve (2 nights before the wedding) with literally just finger foods and salad, wine and beer...something chill. If that doesn't work then we will just host a brunch at the hotel where most people are staying. I dont want a big RD since it's just too expensive. If all those options dont' work we may just scratch the idea entirely...and i'll just get together with my bridal party the afternoon/night before at the hotel they are staying at and have some drinks with them.

I don't think you should necessarily feel you need to scrap the idea entirely but you can def do something low budget and it will probably end up being more relaxing for you and more fun for everyone...a nice contrast between an informal RD and a more formal wedding.

Informal is fine in my opinion, but they are traditionally the ones who pay
