Yogi Berra Sues TBS Over 'Sex And The City' Ad

POSTED: 12:16 am EST February 2, 2005

NEW YORK -- New York Yankees great Yogi Berra has filed a $10 million lawsuit against TBS.

The litigation claims the cable television network sullied Berra's name by using it in a racy advertisement for its 'Sex and the City' reruns.

Berra's lawsuit said the magazine ad caused 'severe damage to his reputation.' with its reference to Kim Cattrall's sexually promiscuous character, Samantha.

Berra's lawyers say the offending ad queried readers about the definition of 'yogasm.' Possible definitions: (a) a type of yo-yo trick, (b) sex with Yogi Berra and (c) what Samantha has with a guy from yoga class. The answer is (c).

According to the suit, the reference to sex 'damaged his otherwise spotless reputation.'

Berra was a Hall of Fame catcher for the Yankees from 1946 to 1963.

While it is kinda funny I don't know if I totally blame him. They used his name in an ad for a well known show and a sexual reference (though untrue) was involved. He definitely is old school and the reference obviously didn't sit well with him. 10 million dollars is a lot of money though.
