AHHHHHHHH!!! I havent officially chosen a BM dress color....2 BM's have been in BP's multiple times and would really like to do black which i am not opposed to....the other 2 BM's it doesnt really matter.....my mother is such a PITA! She loves to keep making these little comments about how black is so not appropriate for a wedding blah blah blah.
My cousin is in a wedding today and their wearing poofy black gowns and shes like ohhh its gonna look terrible, some of the girls are heavy set and its not gonna look right, this big black poofy dress....so i'm like no its the style what does the color matter....so she keeps pressing it.
so finally i come out and say so basically b/c i'm considering black you think its totally inappropriate right? and shes like well i told you from the beginning that i wasnt crazy about it but i'm not paying for it and i'm not the bride.....
like seriously? i'm her only daughter and i understand she jsut wants it all to be beautiful, and shes like i know that black is a new trend.....but doesnt she realize that she makes me feel like sh!t when she says that choices or decisions i've made she things are wrong or inappropriate? I mean i'm not big into a theme, i want color in the shoes, flowers, and jewelry so they'll look fancier than anyone else in a black dress......and i really wanted raspberry colored dresses, but my MOH hates the color, fine i'm ok with that......i just feel like why does my mom care so much!?!?!? we havnt even gone dress shopping yet!

it look like my mom and your mom got together.... my mom dont understand why someone would have black bms dress or anything on her wedding black (except for the guys tuxedo)... I just learn not to pay attention and I am going to choose whatever I want and if they liked good if not I dont care I am the bride (SUPER bridezilla in action )

1st it's YOUR wedding!!!! 2nd you havent gone to look at dresses yet and you dont know if you'll end up with black dresses, it's just an option right now. I love color but, I do like how some weddings look with black dresses. My cousin just did this at hers so I wont be doing it. I like the idea that you are using color with the flowers, shoes, jewlery and whatever else you can do then do it. You can even find a black dress with a sash and have your raseberry color there. Your invites can be raseberry as well. there is sooo much you can do. Remind your mother it's only an idea right now!!!!

this is ur wedding and u have to be happy!!! you cant worry about ur mom. i think u should dit her down and tell her how u feel. Maybe she doesnt realize her comments are bothering u so much.

I think you have to do what pleases you, I think black is a classic color, and like you said you can dress it up with the raspberry color. very nice color combo

i was literally JUST in a wedding a week ago today and we wore black, and let me tell you, ive never seen anything more elegant than these dresses. this specific dress would've looked good on any body frame, but all of her BMs were heavyset, and we allllll looked good.

Shes your mom. Ive learned that since u are her daughter your wedding entitles her to be a PITA... mine was a big reason why we called off all wedding planning...
Just yes her to death and tell her she will be surprised at the wedding lol

that ***** - i hate it when people make me feel like crap about things like that - you just have to remember - that it is your wedding - not hers - and if she doesnt like it - its not for her to reflect on for the next 50 years - its your wedding and you dont want to have 'i wish i would have done this or that' - so go for the black if its what you like!

My bridesmaid dresses are black. They're perfectly fine for a night wedding. If you were having a day wedding I would be a little iffy on that. But, it's your wedding. You should pick what you want. How bout a dress with an accent color? Then you can get black with Raspberry ( I believe that is the color you said you liked)

I am having the exact same problem. My BMs couldn't decide on one color and a lot of them have said they would really like to wear black so that they might actually be able to wear the dress. I am fine with them wearing black. It's not like there will be no color at the wedding. You can always incorporate brightly colored flowers for their bouquets. Anyway, my mom is also so against the idea and tells me how inappropriate it is every chance she gets. It is completely annoying and I can't stand it but I want to avoid a fight. I'm an only child so this is the only chance she has to really work on a wedding. I think the best thing to do is just keep explaining why you made the choice for black and stick to it. Yes, it is your wedding day but she's probably just excited and has a lot of her own ideas. I know my mom has been planning this day for me since I was little and I don't want to take away from her happiness. You're right though you cannot please everyone so just do what makes you happy!!

What about this dress? You can do black over raspberry satin. It's still a black dress, very re-wearable and the color will make your girls stand out. It's totally different from an entire dress in that color so your MOH should hopefully like it.
Edit: there are also a couple of variations of this dress, black with an underlay that can be any color you want

thanks girls, i dont think i'm being unreasonable....but she has to remind me of her opinion every once in a while and i want to scream at her! she'll get over it....we're really close and i guess i look for her approval (even though i usually do what i want)

Jim Hjelm is actually the designer i plan on looking at first....that dress is an option, all the girls will pick whatever dress they want (with my approval) and thats one i know my MOH likes....the other girls i would want in a solid color dress......i also like green but i cant seem to find a shade i really like.....but again havnt gone to any stores yet so who knows what'll happen!!!

you could always do black/raspberry for your MOH and raspberry for everyone else. or raspberry with a black sash or whatever. there are also other variations on that dress.
When you say green, do you mean more of a mint green or a lime green?
I do think raspberry/black looks better than green/black, but green looks beautiful without the black.
