everyone says: 'it's your wedding, do what you want'
but i wonder...how many brides actually do that to a tee?? i know i am not one of them.

Re: you know...
I've done plenty of things that I did NOT want during this wedding planning process.. to make mine or FH's family happy. It used to bother me a lot, mainly because we are paying for 90% of it. But I try to grin and bear it.
Im relatively happy with my choices thus far, but it took some compromising on my part.

Same here.. It seems like everything I said no to at first, has become yes!! There are certain things I am being stubborn about, but that's because it's MY wedding.. I can't give in to everything!!

Re: you know...
Im one. My basic mentality about the whole thing is 'F... it!'
Im not rich, my parents can't help and neither can his. So Im paying for it. Frankly if those attending have a crappy time, I could care less. They want something better they could have pitched in.
I think it's just cause Im bossy and low on patience. I want it my way all the time. Heck my car actually has a plate cover that says that. Im willing to make sacrifices if I have to but they are ones that *I* choose to make, not ones that are pushed on me by 'others'. The infamous 'They' still hold some sway, even you girls here have make me re-think things, but ultimately my day, my man, my money, my wedding.
As long as I have a good time (which I know I will) then I don't care what others think. It's almost a foregone conclusion someone will think my wedding is cheap, boring, dull, odd or otherwise distasteful. Why should I waste energy and heartache when I can't change it?
JMHO
You want a great wedding, you'll have one. Afterall as long as you're getting married with family and friends around does the rest really matter that much? Again, just my thoughts.

I am one of them. FH and I are paying for the whole thing ourselves. No one else has a say unless they fork over some $$$.

Re: you know...
ME!! I am!! No one put too many demands on me so its been easy. At the beginning my mom was pressuring me about the time of day to get married, I walked out of the catering hall and left her there. I later explained that its my wedding- for her wedding she can do whatever she wants, but my wedding I want in the evening. She has not said anything since. She even finally approved my wedding song (I am not having live music- but a CD played- which she was totally against!!)

I did what I wanted and didn't care what anyone else said. I had one BM tell me it was absolutely necessary to have some sort of favor.....I stil chose not to do them

Re: you know...
I did what I wanted and said to heck with what everyone else wants! we paid for it ourselves though. I think its easier to say that when you pay yourselves rather that if people are helping you, it makes them think they can tell you what to do!

Re: you know...
I could never tell my mom that it is my day & I am not listening to anything she has to say.
Actually, the whole wedding was not our idea. I've always wanted a barbeque , but I changed my mind partly b/c of what other people would want & partly to be practical, and partly b/c I didn't want to feel I 'missed out' on a real wedding.
I ended up changing my church b/c at first I did what I thought other people wanted, but then I realized no one was going to disown me, so I changed it to what we wanted.

Re: you know...
DH and I made it a POINT to do everything the way we wanted! For one, we paid for 90% of our own wedding, so we didn't have the annoying 'I have say if I'm paying for it' deal from the family - which was nice!! The way we saw it - it was OUR day, and it wouldn't make any sense to do things the way someone else wanted, right? I say stick to your guns - it's your wedding and people are gathering to celebrate your union with your new husband. Just remember, you only do this once, and you don't want to look back on your wedding day and say, 'I wish we had done this instead...' Your wedding is a celebration of who you are, and the new life you are starting together as husband and wife - you owe it to yourself to do it your way!

Re: you know...
I am making many of the choices I want, but I am definitely compromising in the areas that affect others. I wanted a more expensive Jim Hjelm BP dress, but I let them buy off the rack for much less, and none of them needed alterations in the off the rack dress. I also let them go with whatever black shoes they wanted to go with the dark red dress, so they could wear them again. I guess I am too much of a pragmatist to go overboard in terms of spending, even though it is my $. I debate where else in our lives it could be going, and decide usually that it is one day. An important day, but one day nonetheless.
