you think your FMIL has problems????

ok. my FMIL got here yesterday, the wedding is in 9 days and she will be here the whole time. I work nights a few days a week, get up in the afternoon yesterday, and she is vegging on the couch and the house smells like the funny green stuff. ok, to each his own. until tonight, and I notice that she has gone through my hotel guest baskets, AND EATEN ALMOST EVERYTHING IN THEM!!!!! Is this not crazy???? This stuff is not in my kitchen, it is stacked neatly and very clearly for the wedding in my office. AND she leaves dirty dishes/coffe cups etc all over the house. Do i need this???? AAAHHHHHHHHH!

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

you know what, it totally is so **** funny...I am laughing myself!! This is crazy!! I had my baskets all set up nicely, and most of the little cheese and cracker things and the lindens cookies are missing. the absolute nerve!! we get along well, but she is a bit of a wack. I am so shocked. And the audacity, to not even wash out her coffee cup or dishes, so that I come home from working all day, to a sink full of dishes??? I feel like I'm in the twillight zone!!

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

If she's gonna be like that with the dishes save your self a big headache and go out and buy a huge supply of paper plates, cups and plastic cutlery. No use trying to change the wacky lady now when you have so much else on your mind.

Just keep a running countdown in your head 'just 9 more days', 'just 8 more days'... She'll be gone before you know it!

Good Luck!!

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

I had to giggle when I read this - you HAVE to talk to her or your last 9 days before the wedding are going to be crazy and it will stress you out even more - tell her to go buy her own 'munchies!'

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

Ugh! What nerve. It's so hard to have guests staying in your house. I can't believe she would do such a thing! Did you confront her about this? Maybe she can help re-buy somethings to put in the baskets.

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

Oh my. I've had to deal with lots of wacky family (and future family) issues, but the green stuff...whoa... I don't know what I'd do if I caught my FMIL in that state.

Lock up the fridge! Booby trap the pantry!! Hell hath no fury like a stoned FMIL!!

This sounds like something you may want to involve you DFH in. She really should help you replace what's been eaten out of the baskets.

9 days? OMG! Hopefully, this will be the toughest thing you'll have to deal with.

Best wishes and have fun in the home stretch...

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

That is disgusting that she ate your gift baskets. Maybe your FH should confront her. I feel sorry for you. Doesnt she have things she could do during the day? That is terrible!!

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I have to say it did make me laugh picturing her going through the baskets and eating everything. I'd re-stock the baskets and maybe attach a post-it note that clearly says: FOR WEDDING DAY ONLY!! Good luck! Aren't inlaws fun?!LOL

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

My advise- send her to a hotel! I know that is hard but WTF??? You should ask her to please replace the guest basket foods. Also, mention to her in a nice way, 'I am so tired and under a ton of pressure right now. Would you mind helping me out by cleaning up and doing your own dishes'

Oh my god Deb, I was laughing too and I feel guilty! It reminds me of a bad roommate in a movie or something! With how much you have stressed ALREADY, you do not need her!!! Hope it all works out, just think Aruba, first class, in 10 days!!!

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

Debbie,

I know it's not funny, but I was laughing at the fact that she got stoned and got a major case of the munchies. I think your FH needs to set her straight, you might want to think about locking up your goodie baskets and buying her an industrial size bag of chips

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

i feel soooooo bad....but it will definitely be something to laugh at when she is FAR away after the wedding....anyway, in the meantime try to be firm but polite with her....she sounds like she doesn't 'get it' too quickly....

p.s. now i really do appreciate my fmil!!!

Re: you think your FMIL has problems????

I have never heard of such a thing...I just can't believe she ate all that food, and thought it was okay. As for the dishes - I agree - you should just stock up on paper goods for now, so you don't have to deal!!

And as for the food, well, I'm not sure I would have the guts to ask my FMIL to replace what she ate (not that I think it was right AT ALL). I would just replace them - put them somewhere where she wouldn't look - and DEFINITELY go to price club and buy donuts, chips, and any other 'munchie' food so you don't have to worry. Oh, and air freshner too!!!!!!

Good luck with it all - please try your hardest to concentrate on all the WONDERFUL things right around the corner!!
