Younger Bridesmaids

Younger Bridesmaids

All of my BMs wil be over the age of 21 at the time of my wedding...except my sister. She'll only be 14.

I'm worried for 2 big reasons:
The bachlorette party- there isn't much we can all do with her..she's only 14 so obviously clubs and bars and atlantic city are out.

The Bridesmaids dresses. I really want to have strapless dresses, but I'm torn. Is strapless inappropriate for a 14 year old? Right now, I'm torn on whether or not it would be okay for her to wear a strapless dress. I don't think my mom would care either way.

Does anyone else have younger BMs? If so, had did you solve any of these issues?

my step sister will be 14 at the wedding. I am going to give my step mother the option of adding spaghetti straps to the dress - since the rest of the girls will be in a strapless - i dont think it will look bad at all

As far as he B-Party I would see if some of your bridesmaid want to get mani/pedi before you big B-party so that way you can include you younger sister or do something just the 2 of you.

As far as the dress, I think ask you mom for sure and if your mom doesn't care the give your sister the option of spahgetti straps or strapless. She mioght not be comfortable in strapless.

sorry i didnt answer about the bach party.. i am sure that you can make something extra special with her and your bridesmaids such as a fun lunch and mani/pedis.. i am so sure that she will understand you and the girls going out for an over 21 night. As long as you make her feel super special.. maybe something ALONE just the two of you and you let her know what a big deal it is and how special she is to you - she probably wont think its that big of a deal if she doesnt go to the real bach party with you and the bms. just a thought

I would have a 2 part b-party. I have 2 sisters under 21 and i think they are planning a concert which will be tons of fun and my sisters can come and some of us can still drink :) maybe we can go out after without the younger ones so you can do something like that to include her

as for the dress... i would personally put a 14year old in a dress with spaghetti straps mostly because they dont have much to keep the dress up and 2 i just think its still young for strapless but thats just my opinion... i would give your mom/ her the option but dont at all think it would look bad

My MOH is 19, my sister, so she is old enough for the dress. As for the bachelorette, she will go out to dinner with us, and then just leave before we hit the bars.

one of my BM's will only be 12 at the time of my wedding. my BM's all have strapless dresses but her dress will have straps. also, i am going to do something special with only her before the big day and my BM's and I are going to do a spa day and wine tasting which she obviously cant attend.

ITA - also most style of dresses come in JR BM sizes so I don't know if that means they look a little more appropriate as well. My sister will be 15 and she is a BM - I haven't thought what we will be doing with her at the Bparty - I guess I have to see what my girls have planned for me.

i will have a 13 year old BM. She isn't going to wear strapless. I will see if she fits into the smallest regular sizes, if not, order her a jr size. she isn't really developed yet, but who knows what about happen. I'm going to look for dresses with optional straps anyway and give my BM's the option of straps.

as far as the bachelorette party, i'll probably just do something fun with only her.

I think a strapless dress would be fine for 14 year old. As for the bachlorette party tru and have a special day between the 2 of you. Tell her its a day for just the 2 of you to share doing something together. This way when your bach party comes around she will not feel left out.

Re: Younger Bridesmaids

I have been to three B-Parties where younger bridesmaids had to be incorporated (actually I was invited to four). They all handled it a similar way. Here's some ideas.

Ds - her step-sister was 12, so her step-father brought Alex to meet as at a Hibachi Grill for dinner, this was in PA, about 45 minutes outside of Philli, where the bride was from. We all had an early dinner with Alex, then we took a limo into Philli for a night on the town.

Amys - her cousin was 17 and Amy wasn't promoting underage drinking, so we went to the Melting Pot for dinner, then went out locally.

Annes - her sister was 14, so they spent the day at a ballgame (Red Sox game in the Boston area), then they all went to dinner. Then Hope went home and the rest of the girls went out drinking.

Erin - her sister was 10, so they did a place to make your own pottery and dinner, then her sister Megan went home and the rest of the girls went into the city to go out.

I am probably going to do Fire Island, my oldest cousin who is a BM is 21, but her sisters are not, so the plan is to invite them to join us for dinner then have my dad pick the girls up by boat.

Hope that helped.

If the dress look appropriate or a 14 year old I think it is fine.

If not make her a junior bridesmaid and let her choose a different style but in the same color as the other girls.

I also will have a 14 year old BM because my brother will be 14 at the time, so he needed a partner...

I want dresses with some sort of strap any way because my MOH has a HUGE UGLY tattoo on her chest that I want covered up...

i think adding small straps to it would be good, unless she is more mature looking than most 14 year olds..afterall, 14 year olds are in high school

Re: Younger Bridesmaids

I am actually having my 8 year old sister as a mini-maid of honor along with my 22 year alo sister. I would not have her at the bachelorette party, nor do i think you would need to have her at yours. I would do something separate with her and your bridesmaids aside from the bachelorette party, take her to a comedy club with the girls or a nice dinner, so they can get to know her but its not awkward with the age difference. This is what i have decided to do. Also, the dress situation, I also was debating about having straps on her dress, whch i dont believe is a must. I most likely will as she is only 8 and dances a lot, but ido not believe it is mandatory at all to have straps for a young girl!!!!

Re: Younger Bridesmaids

My youngest BM will turn 21 just before the wedding, phew!

I think strapless is fine for her, but give her the option for straps maybe.

For your bachelorette, maybe you can plan a spa or dinner thing and then she'll have to stay home if you guys go to the bars. FH's brother is 15 so he is trying to figure something out to include him in before they go partying lol

i agree w/ the others.. have a spa day or dinner or something she can participate in... then go out to a bar after w/ the over 21 girls.

Re: Younger Bridesmaids

for the dress: it really depends on her size. my sister is 21 & she has a hard time fitting into a size 0 bridesmaid dress. (she is super skinny but very tall) so if your sister is small she may not even fit into a regular bridesmaid dress so you may have to go for a jr. bridesmaid dress. most bridesmaid dresses have a jr. bridesmaid one to match & i don't think i have ever seen a strapless jr bridesmaid dress. usually always spaghetti straps.

on the other hand if she fits into the bridesmaid dress that you pick it should be a decision that you, her & your mom make together. as far as if she will be comfortable & if the dress is approriate for her personality. (shy or outgoing)

for the bachelorette party: maybe it would be nice if you just do something with her. maybe lunch & a movie. or if you are going to dinner with the bridal party before your bachelorette party (depending on where you go), include her in that part.

Re: Younger Bridesmaids

Thanks soo much for all the suggestions- they're so helpful. I'm pretty sure she'll fit into a reg. BM dress (she's not that small), we wear about the same size. As far the Bparty- I will probably do something with her before hand and then go out w/ the other girls after.

Re: Younger Bridesmaids

my BP is youngish as well.. they will be 18, 16, 14 so i think we will have to do two bachelorette parties.. with the younger girls i think we'll do a spa thing and then maybe a sleep over and go out with the older girls and my other friends.
