This is kind of a two part question; Do you girls like your FH's last name better then yours?
Also, is it disrespectful to FH to hypenate? My FI is DEAD AGAINIST me hypenating my last name!! I like my last name and Im not crazy about the way just his last name sounds
Its really silly that hes getting so mad over this. What do you all think?

Re: Your New Names
I plan on taking my FH's last name. It doesn't really make a difference to me. I think he would be annoyed if I hyphenated our names. But then again my cousin has been married for 25 years and never changed her name. It's all personal choice.

Re: Your New Names
My last name always gets butchered, mispronounced, misspelled... and so, yes I'm looking forward to taking my FH's name. His is much easier! It's not that I LIKE IT better, it'll just be EASIER
I don't have a middle name, and so, I'm going to make my current last name my middle name. I don't want to totally let go of my maiden name. It's part of who I am. I don't think it's dissrespectful to hyphenate at all. I think a lot of guys though are against it because they feel like you're rejecting their last name; and others are just old fashioned and think you should take his name. I think it's a personal decision. You should find out why he's so against it, and see if you guys can work it out.

Re: Your New Names
I am taking my FI last name. It's not that I don't like my last name but I'm not going to hyphenate. I must say I do like how my first name sounds with his last.

Re: Your New Names
I am really struggling with this. I am very attached to my last name. It is who I have been for the past 27 years. FI has no problem with whatever I decide but I am not sure what to do. I think I am going to hypenate my name. My father also does not have any sons and I would like to keep my last name going in some way.

Re: Your New Names
I am struggling too. I feel like I'm losing my identity. My current last name is 12 letters long and FI's last name is 7 letters long so hyphenating is really NOT an option for me. I just feel like I'll be starting my life over, (which I am in a way) but losing myself in the process.

Re: Your New Names
I like my new last name. Although I kinda liked being an 'H' and now I'll be a 'W' No hyphenation for me. I already have my mom's maiden name as my middle name. Having 3 'last names' would be way too many.
Our poor kids at the end of the alphabet.

Re: Your New Names
I don't like Fh's name better than my own and regardless I am not changing my name. I don't think it is AT all disrespectful t hyphenate. Why would it be? It's not more disrespectful than expecting somsone to change their name entirely.

Re: Your New Names
FHs name is much easier then mine! Im italian so you can only imagine.
My last name is 11 letters and his is 6. I know it would be long but I think it sounds better then just his. His last name isnt italian and I really want to keep my italian last name.
I think he is againist me hypenating because he is old fashioned and he wants everyone to know im his wife.
Legally, I think I will hypenate but around him i will just be his last name

Re: Your New Names
You can use a hyphenated name legally and professionally and juts his name socially.
There are a lot of guys (and gals) whoa re old fashioned like that.
FH is sort of old fashioned and would LOVE for me to take his name but he knows it's not going to happen. We actually recently came to a compromise about our kids. Legally they will have both names, socially they will have his.

i didnt state that earlier in my post-but socially i will be his last name, but otherwise hyphenated, i dont think my parents would NEED me to hyphenate- I just want that for me and them!

Re: Your New Names
This is SUCH a TOUCHY subject with FH and I!!! I want to hyphenate for many reasons. 1st and foremost it's who I am!! My last name is and always will be mine! I'm not changing myself once married, I'm ADDING to it! (I'm starting to tear up as I write this ) My last name helps define who I am. Hyphenating would be how I'm happily adding to my life. Now on the legal aspect, ALL my state and city licensing is under my name! I would have to do SOOOO much paperwork to change it! I don't think it's fair! If boys had to change and do all this....We wouldn't even be TALKING about it!!!

OMG, let's not even start with the paperwork: credit cards, passport, ss card, liscence, insurance paperwork (i think), probably lots of other things I'm forgetting. Boys have it so lucky.

Re: Your New Names
My name gets mispronounced all the time, and his is a lot easier. But its also more common... I am going from having a very original last name to a very common one... I might hyphenate legally and change it socially.. we'll see. He says he doesn't care, but I really don't believe him

Re: Your New Names
im Planning on taking FH. There are more boys in my family already to carry on the name, plus I dont have my father's last name(long story), but my mother's maiden name, therefore I could care less about dropping it.
