Your vs You're

Original post by superkat

I found this on a website! It is very helpful!

'Your' vs. 'You're'

Contrary to popular belief, 'your' and 'you're' are not, in fact, interchangable. Let's take a look at how they differ:

'Your' indicates possession, as in 'I'm going to put my foot up your a$$.'

'You're' is a contraction of 'you are,' as in 'You're about to learn the meaning of pain.'

One of my favorite avatars ever:

'Your Stupid.'

'My stupid what?'

Only someone who understands the difference will find this funny.

Also - when people mistake 'to' and 'too'

In the spirit of the season - I cannot stand when people refer to Feb 14 as Valentimes Day. It's an N not an M.

All kidding aside, it doesn't matter how much work teachers put into teaching proper English. Children will often use language the way it is used at home. It is a constant battle. We all do our best. Frankly, I am pleased that my students know to start a sentence with a capital letter and end it with a punctuation mark.

Who agreed to all kidding aside??

You are right, I know. My mother has some of the worst grammar and my older brother is a clone of her. Thank goodness for drama class that helped me get rid of my accent.

My mother is afraid to write anything in front of me and she is a pretty good writer. I do not proclaim to be an expert by any means. I use my APA manual or look something up when I am not sure that it is correct. DH and I have an understanding that when we have kids, I will do English homework and he will do the math!

As some of you know... English is not my primary language and I make mistake... yet, it totally annoys me when I read:

Your welcome!!! Hello!!!! Even MOI knows it's not correct.

I must add to the list: He don't, she don't...
