Zyban?

Zyban?

Has anyone tried Zyban to quit smoking?
Did it work?

This is such a gross habit!

Re: Zyban?

I have not taken Zyban, but am taking Welbutrin, which is the same thing (for some reason ins companies won't cover Zyban, but will cover Welbutrin). I have taken it before and it really helps take the edge off. Just after we quit we put our house on the market and started looking for another one, which was stressful, and we used that as an excuse to go back. I just started the Welbutrin again this week. It does not make the craving go away, but it does ease them and helps with the nicotine withdrawal.

Same as Liz, I used Wellbutrin (which is the same thing as Zyban) Just that Zyban is marketed as a stop smoking aid (that's why ins co won't cover it) and Wellbutrin is marketed as an antidepressant (that's why ins. co. WILL cover it). I used Wellbutrin for a week and had to stop b/c I was vomitting everyday. It was awful for me and I would never try it again. It did help with the cravings though. But unfortunately I'm still smoking

The only side effects I had were weird dreams, that was it, oh and a slight loss of appetite. I did not feel nauseous (sp) or anything, just wasn't hungry.

My DH used Wellbutrin (like everyone else mentioned, his insurance would only cover Wellbutrin, not Zyban). He took it for three months and was able to quit smoking after two months. He didn't suffer from any side effects (not that I can remember).

Re: Zyban?

I started to take it a while ago, but if you read the package insert it says you cant drink with it because you can go into seizures. Not that I drink all that much, but be careful. Also, a lot of antidepressants (which is what wellbutrin/zyban is), interact with a lot of medication. So, I stopped and Im still smoking.

Thanks for your input everyone, and thanks for the encouragement Stef!

Vomiting, seizures, weird dreams.....Hm. Maybe I'll try the patch!

Re: Zyban?

I used it for 1 month and quit... I didn't smoke for a year and now I smoke occassionly when I'm out (maybe 1-2 cigs a week or so)...

I had no side effects- except a decreased appetite which was great b/c I didn't want to stop smoking & gain weight.
