Restaurant Bill Etiquette

Restaurant Bill Etiquette

Tomorrow, my sis, her bf and I are taking Dad out for his bday. I invited 2 of Dad's friends as well.

How does this work with the bill? Do I pay for the whole thing? If the friends offer me money, do I take it? Do I ASK them for money?

Dad's friends aren't the annoying cheap kind who won't offer, at least i don't THINK they are, but how does this work? Usually I just spring for the whole thing, but the restaurant is a bit pricey and I foresee a couple carafes of wine in my near future. This could end up being a $200+ bill and I don't want to ask Dad for money.

you can tell everyone 'we will split the bill evenly amongst us all, and i will pay for me and my dad'

IMO, you and your sister split bill.

This is what I was thinking too.

We invited the 2 friends out, we should be prepared to pay the bill.

Now, what about the tip? Should I let them cover it? Only if they ask though, I'm not going to outright tell them, 'Ok, You got the tip right?'

If they offer, I might let them...

Im the type to not ask for $$ unless they offer. Since you invited the friends, I think you and your sis should split. I'm sure they will offer to pay too, in that case, I would still pay for dad.

If they offered to leave tip, I'd be OK with that.

This exactly. And they can leave the tip if they offer, which I would.
