1/17/2009 Winter Wonderland Wedding with Fox Hollow, Somerset, Bayview Florist, Orange Films NY and much more

I never really posted that much, but If i had a question or concern, or just wanted an unbiased opinion, i would post.
I always loved the review section and found it very helpful. So hopefuly my review will be of some help to someone.

First , i just want to say that this site while so helpful can drive you crazy. There are so many great ideas you will want to do everything.
You can go crazy wondering, what is a slipper basket and will my wedding be a disaster if I didn’t do that? You will question everything. Oh Good idea! Do I need that?
The truth is, the day goes by so fast and while I did spend a lot of time on some detals. i don’t think people really noticed.
What I’ve noticed after the fact, is that what they notice is the music and food. So I would put a lot of effort into making sure that is right for who will be at your party.
What people are still saying is that it was such a fun party, what a great party, great music, the food was delicious and so much of it.
I haven’t had one person say “Oh, You’re menu’s were beautiful, or it looks like you spent hours making your invitations”

Anyway Have fun and don’t let the little things bother you because things WILL NOT BE PERFECT. Centerpieces will not be exactly
like your sample, people will cancel last minute and others may show up at the last minute. Things work themselves out and noone else will notice but you.
So keep your cool and be the calm and fun bride that everyone will notice and remember.

Here it Goes......
Weather -A
It was COLDD!!!! But it was a winter wedding so it was expected. It didn’t snow all day except for late at night like 10:00pm.

Engagement Ring
Good Old Gold - A
Massapequa
DH picked it out himself and I love it. i wouldn’t change a thing about it. He said he had a great experience with them.

Church
St. Rose of Lima - A
Massapequa
Besides an early issue we had with the church Our experience with St. Rose was very good. DH was baptized there, we both made our
communions and confirmations there, so there was no doubt that this was where we would be married. We actually enjoyed Pre Cana.
The couple we met with was really nice. And our group made it fun. We met with Deacon Flood several times and I think it made his homily
very special for us.

Bridal Shower
Cirella’s - B
Huntington?
I loved my shower and Cirella’s did a great job. I gave them a B because there seemed to be an issue with the fish they served.
A lot of people complained and had to change their order. The cook said he cooked it as long as possible and it was just how the fish was.
If that many people complained, something’s gotta be wrong with the fish. They took care of the issue though and paid for the bar tab for
the shower which was a few hundred. So i guess the issue was solved.

My Dress - A++++
Village Bridal & Boutique
Babylon
When I looked for my dress. I only went here and Bridal Garden in Bethpage(A) which I think closed. The dress I bought was I think the
second dress i tried on and i felt like I had to go somewhere else just to see. I ended up back at Village Bridal. i love the girls there.
They are so nice and helpful. The alterations lady was awesome too. Everyone loved her. My dress fit perfect. It is Casablanca, i forget
the style number.

Bridesmaids Dresses -B
(Venus Bridals-Bella?) - F
Flower Girl Dress - A
Village Bridal & Boutique
The girls dresses were a big problem. I am very easy going so i knew thing would work out.
1- I had three bridesmaids who were pregnant at the time we ordered dreses, so there was no way to estimate for sure there size.
Two of them had to have there dreses taken out big time. Even thought I know they all ordered several sizes larger than usual.
2-The dress is a two piece dress and when they came from the manufacturer sen them to village bridal, they attached the wron size tops
to the wrong size bottoms. Now I had three girls from out of town pick their dresses up and take them home to be fit. When my sister went
to get fitted, her dress did not fit at all. (Like can’t get it over one leg.) This is when they realized the issue. Luckily it was only one skirt
of a girl out of town that had to be swithced and she hadn’t had it altered yet. My friend shipped dress back(Bridal place oayed for it)
The bridal place shipped skirt to her and then Fed ex left it iat the wrong building in her apartment complex. Finally the person it was
delivered to brought it to my friend. A very stressful two days. (This was three weeks before the wedding)
3-For the most part all girls needed to take dress out. I know for a fact that they all ordered a few sizes up.
I feel they should have known if this style runs smaller than usual.

I love this place but there ws a huge mix up with my girls dresses. It was really the manufacturers fault but I thibnk the girls should have
double checked that the4 tops matched the bottoms.
But Village Bridal & Boutique handled everything wonderfully and were very pateint with me calling to check on things.

Oh Yeah! Everyone raved about the seamstress, noone had any issues with her. She did everything the girls wanted and the dresses
did look beautiful the day of.

Veil and Headpiece - A++
Barron’s
Tri County Flea Market
I went there because i heard they were very reasonable and i found the perfect veil and headpiece. It matched my dress perfect.
I dealt with the lady and she was very nice and helpful.

Day of Jewelry A++
Booth next to Barron’s
Tri-County
The booth is kind of a mess and intimidating because there is a big mess of jewelry all over but i think this might be one of my favorite vendors.
I got married Saturday and went Thursday to find jewelry. The lady was soooo helpful. She pulled different things out and suggested different
things. I ended up picking the things that were her favorites. She was dead on about how things would look. And the prices were very reasonable.
She also gave me a good luck penny which was funny but thoughtful.

Bridesmaids Gifts A
Swarovski
Roosevelt Field mall
I saw a neckalce in there that would go perfect with my theme. They were pricey and Swarovski will not give a discount. i bought them anyway and
the girls loved them. And they looked beautiful.

Invitations A++++ :)
Me
Supplies
Paperandmore.com- A
I am a graphic artist so I did my invitations myself. While it was still expensive, I LOVE my invites. They were a labor of love and came out beautiful.
I recruited my mom to help sparkle them with me. What a mess.

Favors
Wilton Tin Kit.- A
I did the labels for the tims. Super easy and they looked really cute
Vodka - A (Mom bought, not sure from where)
Tags for Vodka I did myself

Menus - A
Did myself

Fiber optic Wands -A-
I had this great idea to use fiber optic wands after the church ceremony because I thought it would be dark when we came out.
Unfortunately it was still light so that idea didn’t work. I made the tags for these too.

BIG VENDORS

Limos
Somerset Limos -A
Massapequa hink it was three weeks before my wedding Stacey came out and id a trial
for me. WOW. I NEVER wear make-up but felt so comfortable with her work. She was really nice and i loved working woth her.
I also needed someone to do 3 of my briesmaids hair because they were in from out-of-town.
Sabrina did a great job with their hair and even helped some make-up. Everyone looked so beautiful.
They are great about gettign back through email. Very quick responses.

My Hair A++++++
My Cousin Robert
My cousin is an artist when it comes to hair. He works on various tv shows and movies and he asked if he wasd going to do my hair. I said Of Course.
I never had a trial because I trust him so much. He came with me to buy my hairpiece and had an idea from the beginning what he wanted to do. My hair came out AWESOME.
I LOVED it. He worked so hard on all my family’s hair and I appreciate him so much.

Flowers A+++
Bayview Florist
Massapequa
I loved my flowers. They came out beautiful. My centerpieces were a little different than my sample but I loved them.

Photographer - A+++++
Sherwood Triart
Woodbury
My sister and cousin used them and I loved there pics so i knew i would want to use them.Yes they are pricey
but the quality is excellent. Originally I met with Tony. i liked him. Some people may not like him but he was as very confident and proud of there work. You also do not get digital
files of your proofs. Only the ones you choosef for your album.
The Day of Brian was my photographer and I forgot the name of the assistant. They were early and very professional. They did a great job of making me feel comfortable.
My proofs came out gorgeous. There are so many great pictures it is going to be hard to choose.

Videographer A+++
Orange Films NY
Edward Zilberman
I wasn’t going to do a video but looked up Edward and fell in love with his work. I met with him and he is so easy to talk to. He is really an artist and is redefining the wedding video in my opinion.
He got a little lost coming to my parents house but was still on time. i didn’t even realize he was there half the time. I can’t wait to see the video.

DJ-A+++++++++++++++++++++++
Then ‘til Now
Lindenhurst
My parents had used this company 8 years ago for my nana’s 80th birthday. They did such a great job and people still talked about how much fun they had so i met with them.
We met with Steve who I believe owns the company and MC’d our wedding. He was so nice and really loves his job. We had two plasma screens with
a vidoe of us when we were growing up and together and they had someone going around taking pictures all night and they would put them up on the screens. If you’ve seen the
dance floor in the Garden Terrace you know it is basically the lenght of the room. It was packed all night. Everyone keeps telling us it was one of the most fun weddings they have been
to in a while. I did not give him a long list of music to play. I gave him maybe 5 must play songs and he hit the nail on the head for the rest of the night. Mostly everyone stayed till the
need and didn’t run out after cake. They were not crazy as far as the typical MC, DJ type of thing. I LOVE this Vendor!!

Fox Hollow - A+++++++++++++++++++
Woodbury
I can’t say enough about Fox Hollow. My sister got married there a few years ago so we figured we would look. We met with Jen at first and we originally were looking for Oct or Nov.
She suggested showing us prices difference for January and we were SOLD! She was great to deal with. When we did our final menu metting we met with Anne Marie. She was also great.
When we dropped our stuff off they were very thorough with labeling everything. We met ith another guy(I forget his name) but was so nice. He bought us a drink at the bar b/c he was running late.
He had good advice and I liked him. The day of the wedding they took care of everything.
My maitre’d was Harry. My Bridal attendant was Ann Marie. Both were excellent. They made sure we were
taken care of. They showed us cocktail hour before everyone went in so we could make sure everything was good. We had some people cancel last minute so we invited some friends that otherwise couldn’t have come.
It was so late we didn’t have place cards for them, and then another couple came that I had down as a no and didn’t have a place card for them, but Fox Hollow handled it great and made it OK.
Like I said, things will happen, let them take care of it. That is their job.

Fox Hollow Inn- A
Woodbury
I blocked rooms ahead of time. The only thing is you have a minimum and if that doesn’t go, you are resoponsible. Luckily, There were more people who took rooms than i had blocked.
The rooms there are gorgeous. We had a suite comped to us. The only other issue is that after the wedding people had some others back to their room and security came a few times.
They have to know this is going to happen. I don’t know why they don’t have an area in the hotel to hang out in or a bar for late night after the weddings. They must ge this so often, I hope they come up with something.

I think that is it. Any specific questions, plese feel free to FM me
