My Wedding Review-The Woodlands, Renegade, Patken, M* I* A*, Flower Michelle, Elite Affairs, Travel Tom & More!!

I’ve been putting this off for a while because I knew I had a lot to say, I was swamped with so many beautiful photos and simply put...I could never find the time. With some motivation from Jenna (Jenn04) and because I also believe that I owe it to you guys for all of your help, here it is. I hope you enjoy my review, hopefully you can get through all of it. I hope it will help future brides with vendor selections and ideas. First let me start off with our story: I’m originally from Belle Harbor, New York. DH is from Portland, Oregon. We had a long distance relationship for a little over a year before he proposed on the coast in Oregon while I was there for a visit. A few months afer we were engaged I moved to Portland and began looking for employment. I continued my wedding planning from there with a lot of help from my mom and making several trips back and forth. Some might notice that I use the word “I” a lot and that is because DH let me do ALL of the planning. Which worked out well for me since I’m a complete control freak & perfectionist (poor guy). I shopped and met with all of the vendors and he attended all of the final meetings with me. He only wanted to give his input on his tux, the honeymoon preparations and the music for the B&G and BP introductions (a bride’s dream!!!). He thanked me on our wedding day for doing such a beautiful job and praised me for the choices I made with our vendors. That was one of the highlights of my wedding day.

I’d like to add that I was very fortunate with my wedding planning considering I was planning from 3,000 miles away. Besides the fact that I’m a very organized and detailed person, I never had any issues with any of my vendors. They were all a pleasure to work with, very professional and I would recommend every one to another bride to be.

**All photos have been scanned since I have yet to receive my CD (takes 6 months). Please disregard the quality. The proofs look amazing! Some are pro and some are not, you should be able to tell :) **

LIW A++++++++++++

I can’t say enough about LIW and their members. I was unsure about where to even begin and I retrieved a lot of information throughout my planning that was very helpful. In fact, I was presented with so many ideas from other brides, that I went over budget!!! These ideas were too cute to pass up and I dont regret spending the extra money.

Bridal Shower
Buckley's Restaurant - Brooklyn, NY
September 6, 2008

My mom threw me my shower at a local restaurant. I've gone there with friends and with my family. In fact, my cousin got married there. It's a beautiful place with great food and amazing service. My shower was in September (a month before the wedding). It was a total shock since it was held the day that I arrived home from the airport. I got in on the red eye and my best friend picked me up for brunch. I was exhausted and almost didn't go but, it it was so worth it. Thank god the rain, winds and storm held out for me that day otherwise my flight never would have arrived! My mom did a beautiful job!!! Everyone had a blast. I'm so thankful.

Style: Blossoming Leaves Color: Ecru. Great experience. I just love their designs. The quality is great too.

Rehearsal Dinner
The Maine Maid Inn (Carriage Room)

www.themainemaidinn.com

DH and I have been here several times for lunch, dinner and drinks. It was very important to us to have a private room, be close to the hotel and the price be reasonable. The Main Maid was everything we were looking for- the perfect location (only 5 min from hotel), vintage restaurant, private room, great service, delicious food and since we got married on site, this room provided us with an outdoor balcony where the BP was able to rehearse with the help of our DOC (I wasn't totally comfortable rehearsing on the day of, which turned out not to be a big deal. They customized the menu to work within our budget and the service that evening was great.
*UPDATE*- I just heard that this restaurant is closing :(

The Four Points Sheraton

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/fourpoints/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1476&EM=VTY_FP_1476_plainview_overview

DH and I both got ready at this hotel. He had a private room the night before and I slept in the bridal suite with my bridal party! The hotel was one of the closest to the Woodbury strip that had an updated, modern theme. This hotel blocked several rooms at a discounted rate for our guests and when some guests called after the block out date, they honored the blocked price. This hotel is immaculate. The staff is very accomidating, granted late check out, delivery and booking services. The food at the in-house restaurant is very good. They also provided Shuttle-Service for our guests. They sub- it out but, it was one less thing I had to worry about. The shuttle's were never late!! Our guests never had to wait a long time. My only complaint about the hotel is that the bar closed at 1 am.

Mother Nature – A++++++++++++

I love you!!! I couldn’t have asked for a better day!! Who would have thought it would be sunny, clear and in the 70’s during mid October? We really were very blessed.

Ceremony & Reception
The Woodlands A++++

www.thewoodlandsatwoodbury.com

When I first found this place online I knew that it was “the one” but, at the request of my mom I looked at several other receptions halls before making my final decision. I fell in love with the Woodlands because simply put, it was just my taste. They only host one wedding at a time, it’s a one hundred year old mansion nestled on the Oyster Bay Golf Course. Whenever I’m there, I never want to leave!! They have beautiful cherry wood walls, beautiful black and white marble floor’s, french doors along the back wall of the ballroom and a long winding road that leads up to the circular driveway and the food is AMAZING. I've read about how good the food is here on LIW but, when I went for a tasting, I wanted everything they served me. Having to select which main course selections, the hors d'oeuvres & cocktail hour food was sooo hard. Everything was delish! The lobster tempura roll is to die for!! The location is perfect for photos (DH and I met before the ceremony for photos), did I mention the food is amazing??? (everyone raved about it) and the ambiance was just perfect. We had the entire house for the day and I decorated it with photos of us, our furbabies and family throughout. I'd like to mention that Our Madre D Antonio was incrediable as was my bridal attendant Nicole.

I always planned on getting married in my church but, since the Woodlands was unavailabe on a Sat. in October, we chose to have the event on a Friday evening @ 6:00. The date was perfect 10/10, therefore DH can’t forget our anniversary! I also wanted everyone to witness the ceremony so we decided to have the ceremony on site and I’m so glad we did. The weather was so beautiful we were able to have the ceremony outside on their beautiful grounds. The staff at the Woodlands is amazing and they truly exceeded our expectations. They never missed a beat. They went above an beyond and did everything they could to make sure that they could accommodate every need or desire and and make our dream come true.

A PIECE OF ADVICE: Have a private cocktail hour. DH and I thought that we would be doing ourselves a favor by attending the CH and greeting everyone then but, it backfired. We barely got to eat anything. So go back to the bridal suite and relax, eat & touch up. There is plenty of time to greet everyone later.

Day of Coordinator
Elite Affairs – A+++++++++++++
Lisa Glace

www.eliteaffairsllc.com

Lisa was my favorite person to work with. She was availabe 24/7. In fact I remember getting emails from her at wee hours of the morning. She is very sweet, creative, organized, dedicated and profesional. Lisa was with us at our RD making sure things ran smoothly along with our rehersal. On the day of, she came to our hotel, with a timeline and helped the guys get ready. She was by my side throughout the day fixing my bustle, getting stains out of my dress, handing me tissues and making sure the entire process worked like a breeze. I went not with anything and it was because of her. If anything went wrong, I didn’t even know about it. She even took photos of the little details that often go unnoticed and made our petal cones. Lisa pricing is very reasonable compared to other DOC’s. Even if you weren’t planning on hiring one, do it! Contact Lisa…she’s worth every penny.

Invitations, Programs, Favor & Drive Home Tags, Menus, Signature Drink and Table Cards
Pippy's Sweets A++++

www.pippyssweets.com

I wanted pocket fold invites and after I saw LIW’er Tusto’s invite photo, I had to have something similar. I had already contacted other vendors and nothing compared to Diana’s design, quality or price. Diana is extremely talented and such a pleasure to work with. We did all of our correspondance through email. It was a long process since she works in date order. I started the process in March and we were finally done with the invites and revisions in July. She offered to put them together for me but, I declined (part of my control freakness) but, I did let her address them. The envelope addressing came out great! Much more cost effective then calligraphy and a lot simpler.

After she created our invites she produced our favor tags, menus, programs, signature drink cards and table cards. I presented her with the idea for the table cards which I stole from another LIW’er (nefim). The table cards were names of Oregon locations DH and I have visited along with a point of location map. They came out great!! Diana also addressed all of our invites.

Ceremony Music
Vintage String Quartet – A ++

www.vintagestringquartet.com

I found VSQ through LIW. They were offering a discounted rate for a limited time so I contacted them and Rebecca invited me to attend a wedding ceremony they were doing that weeked. After hearing them I was very impressed. They are remarkable musicians. Rebecca and Andrew were very helpful in providing me with music suggestions. Our correspondence was all through email and unfortunately I met them only for a brief second before our ceremony. They were excellent!

Clergy
Rev. Gregory Sutterlin - A++

Rev. Sutterlin was recommended by the Woodlands and he was so laid back, very helpful and guided me through ceremony writing process. Everyone mentioned how beautiful the ceremony was. If you would like more info, please FM me.

Cocktail Hour Reception Music
LI Paramount – Renegade A+++++

www.liparamount.com

Dave was by far the easiest vendor to work with. Not only are they a Woodlands house vendor, they were recommended by F*i*n*e **A*r*T Photography. While I was at there, I asked them to recommend a few bands and I was told that Renegade is the best wedding band so, I went to a showcase, met with him, booked him and they were fantastic! I was worried about guests not dancing but, with Renegade I worried for nothing. They were by far the best part of our wedding. With the exception of the dedication dances, cake cutting and entrance songs, I let them read the crowd which is one of his many talents. They had everyone up, rockin out, having a great time! I can go on and on about them, just can’t say enough!! My mother received several calls within days and weeks after the wedding asking for the contact info. Renegade also provided our cocktail hour music (sax & keyboard). My DH’s entrance song selections I thought might scare some guests but, this was important to DH so, I thought it was only right to go for it. They were a hit!!

Entrance Songs:
Parent’s – The Best By: Tina Turner
BP – The Beautiful People By: Marilyn Manson
B&G – Down with the Sickness By: Disturbed

Dedication Songs:
B&G First Dance – Feels Like Home By: Chantel Kreviazuk
Bride & Dad – My Little Girl By: Tim McGraw
Groom & Sister – Sister By: Dave Matthews
Bride & Brother – For You I Will By: Monica
Bride & Mom – I’ll Be By: Reba McEntyre

Photographer
Patken Photography - A+++++
Steve - Photographer
Mike - Video

www.patkenphotographer.com

Patken was recommended by the Woodlands along with several other house vendors and I met with all of them plus some. Photography was very important to me as I wanted every moment and every detail captured and Steve did that for us. Steve was very laid back, warm and funny. He was the perfect match for DH since he was nervous and generally doesn’t like having his photo’s taken, no matter how important the occasion. Steve never intruded on our guests, captured every photo on my must take photo list and even showed up at 11 am at my request and our ceremony wasn’t until 6 PM. He took so many great shots that we decided to upgrade our album because we had trouble choosing!!!

Our videographer Mike was a mouse. We didn’t even know he was there and that’s exactly what we wanted. What sold me on Patken was their professionalism, customer satification guarantee, experience, portfolio and price. I did have additional requests that were not in contract and they met my every request at no additional charge. By the time we
got back from our honeymoon our 800+ proofs were ready for pick up!

With Steve - Our Photographer

Flowers
Flower Michelle - A++++
John

www.flowermichelle.com

John is truly a miracle to me because I had no idea what I wanted when it came to flowers. Basically I gave him my budget, color scheme and style and he produced a beautiful display of centerpieces and the arch for the cermony was absolutley beautiful. The accents in my bo-k did begin to wilt but, I’m not sure if the weather had anything to do with it since it was over 70 degrees in October. No one noticed. My DOC Lisa removed them in a flash.

Hair & Make Up
M* i* A - A+++++

M * I * A is another true talent. When I found out she had my date available, I booked her without a trial based on all of her positive reviews on LIW. I did go through trials with two other hair and make up stylists but was not happy with either of them. I had two trials with M* I *A*, two different looks (matte, shiny, extentions, you name it). I spent about 2-3 hours with her on each trial and not only was she patient, creative and sweet, she is very easy to be around. Deciding on how to wear my hair was by far the hardest decision I had to make. All of her work is amazing and while I had my mind set on wearing my hair up, I changed my mind on the day of to wear it down (DH prefers it down) M* I* A brought her assistant Theresa on the day of and Theresa did half of our BP, my mom and my grandmothers hair and make up. All the guests just raved about how the bridal party looked and the girls were very happy with the final outcome. FM me for info.

Lashtique – A+++
Ria

www.lashtique.com

I heard about Ria (MrsPags) from Jenna (Jenn04). I loved how Jenna’s lashes looked so natural and wanted to give it a try. A lot of my friends tried to pursway me not to spend the money since I naturally have long lashes but, I wanted them fuller. I met with Ria 2 weeks prior to the day to see if I would have an allergic reaction (which hardly anyone does, it’s just a precaution). She was great. She has a very soft touch, in fact I never really felt anything. It was very relaxing too!! During the time I was working with her she had several offices (NYC, Great Neck and in Queens) I was scheduled to meet her on the day before my wedding for a touch up but scheduling conflicts led us to not meeting up which was ok anyway b/c the first application still looked great.

Dress
Alissa’s Bridal (Miriam) – A+
Designer: Marisa

www.alissasbridal.com

I knew I wanted simple. I’m a simple girl. I like simple….. I didn’t know simple would be so hard!!!! After trying on several beautiful gowns at Bridal Reflections and Lillettes I knew that I wanted a Marisa gown so now I just had to find the right one. I was still living in NY (Dec. 07) during this time so I went to visit my parents inBrooklyn and they weren’t home so to kill time I decided to stop in at Alissa’s which is near their house. I was convinced I wouldn’t find anything there. I based this decision soley on their website presentation. I totally misjudged them. They had a huge selection and they happened to have MY dress. It was the only Marisa dress and it was last one I tried on. After trying on several Miriam felt that I would like this dress, the only problem is that I had to buy it off the rack. It was ordered for another bride who changed her mind and purchased another dress. The other problem is that is was a size 6. Now for most of you know that a 6 wedding gown is small but, it fit. I just had to try and not gain any weight for the next 10 months which was going to be hard since I was moving to Portland in January and DH is an excellent cook!! I was not comfortable with that so I tried to order a new dress but, I couldn’t b/c that Marisa style had been discontinued. So, if I wanted that dress, I had to take that one and I did. I just wish that my mom was with me when I found it. I also purchased my headpiece from Alissa’s as well. The alterations went well even after I gained 6 pounds and the dress had to be taken out a little bit.

Veil
Tri County – A+

I can’t remember the name of the vendor but he was to the left if you were walking in the front of the building. I ordered an A line veil with a unique “comb” in the back. It really wasn’t a comb but a piece of curved metal that held the veil in place and made it easy to slide it in and pull out of your hair to avoid pulling in place hair out of place! It was ready within two weeks and it was a steal compared to bridal salon prices.

Garter
Monde Designs - Etsy

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5071006

I found so many great finds on Etsy and this was one of them. High end quality and simple with just my new last name initial on it. My mom pinned a safety pin on it and on the safety pin was something old, something borrowed and something blue.

Shoes
Nina Shoes – A++
Style: Fiore – Dyable White Satin

www.ninashoes.com

These shoes dye really nice and they were so comfortable. They had built in padding, which really helped on the dance floor! I received them the very next day and they came with several swatches that you can test dye along with a cute pink shoe bag for preservation!

Groom's Tux
The Mens Warehouse - A++
Beaverton OR & Roosevelt Field Mall

www.themenswarehouse.com

They were great, used various locations for OOT'ers. We had a slight problem with the length of one jacket but, it was fixed immediately.

Very Comfy, as you can see.

Rings
Fred Meyer Jewelers -A++

www.fredmeyerjewelry.com

My SIL is the manager of the Keslo, WA location so DH has no choice but to go to her. My rings are both platinum and DH decided to go with Toungston. I love them both but wish I can get them to stop turning!! DH is very happy with his too!!

Bridemaids Dresses
Bari Jay Style # 704

www.barijay.com

Lotus Bridal – Katie and Wendy – A++++

www.lotusbridal.com

While others may think it was a mistake to ask the girls what they liked instead of just telling them “you are wearing this dress”, I didn’t think it was fair. My bridal party’s ages ranged from early 20’s to 40’s. Girls were tall, short, big and small so I wanted them to be comfortable in what they were wearing. With that said, we went through tons of dresses and shoes. I’m thrilled with what they picked out. Everyone of them looked stunning. Lotus Bridal was a pleasure to work with. I’m sorry to say that I didn’t even know that they existed until I searched for Bari Jay dealers. Two of the bridemaids live in Portland so, I sent Lotus their measurements, their dresses were ordered and shipped to me in Portland. The girls then had their dresses altered in Portland and when one seamstess made a dress to small, Lotus fixed it 2 days before the wedding. They even gave the girls a a discount because we were ordering 5 dresses.

Bridemaids DOJ & Gifts
Nordstrom Rack – A+, Coach Outlet A++ - EdieCastle A+
Earrings, Bracelet, Sachel & Hand Bag

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=12829

I was very picky about the jewelry. I looked everywhere, in stores and online. It was hard for me to find something I liked since I’m not a gold jewelry lover. These were perfect. They could be worn on the day of and beyond and since I found them at the Rack, I practically stole them!!! I gave the girls the earrings and bracelet along with a silk brown jewelry sachel and a coach bag as their bridal party gift. I purchased the coach bags from the outlet store in Lincoln City, OR and paid a little under $60.00 for each. I upgraded for my MOH and bought her a larger earrings, a bigger Coach bag and a Matron of Honor rhinestone tank to wear they day of.

Eyelinerdiner – Etsy A

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6059052

I had trouble finding a charm where I can put on photo on front & back. DH lost both of his parents and I wanted him to have a charm with both of their pictures. I found the charm I was looking for at Kimbra and the quality is beautiful. The actual pin, I bought from an Esty seller (for $3.00) and just added the charm to it. DH loved it!

Unity Candle
Must Love Designs - Esty – A+++
[email protected]

Kara is great to work with and boy she is fast! I had my custom candle on my doorstep within a week. I chose the ribbon colors and emailed her the same font used on our invites, programs and runner (it had to match!). It came out great and the price was right.

Unity Candle Holder
Ella Park Bridal – A+
Antique Gold

www.ellaparkbridal.com

I searched the internet for a matte gold untily candle holder and came across this one on several reputable sites but, it was on backorder. After some more searching, I found ellaparks’ site which showed the item as available and at the same price so, I placed the order. It shipped in a timely manner and was just as depicted on their web site.

Favors
Erath Winery – Pino Gris & Pinot Noir – A++
David Faulke

www.erath.com

We tried to carry an Oregon theme so, we shipped a red and a white of our favorite Oregon wines that are currently not available on the east coast. It was a bit pricy but we are both wine lovers and thought it would be a hit and it was. This favor was on the dining table.

Departing Favor
Moonstruck Chocolate – A+++++

www.moonstruckchocolate.com

Another piece of Oregon, mint chocolates made in Portland gathered and tied with silk ribbon in a bag with a tag that read “Drive Home Safely” This favor was in a basket at the entry and exit of The Woodlands. I stole this idea from another LIW’er, I just can’t remember who.. (jemmifer?)

Francesco Bakery – A+++
Hicksville, NY
516-931-6821

Our wedding cake was included in our contract but, I wanted to upgrade. The Woodlands sent me to Franco for a tasting and to place my order. Franco is great to work with. He looks like Scott Baio (he, does shcole08) and has the personality of Anthony Marintino (SATC). The final outcome was amazing. DH actually dove into the top, (you know the piece we are supposed to save for the 1st year) the next day it was sooo good. The only thing that bothered me was the cake was on a board and the Woodlands already had a cake stand. I hated the way the board looked on top of the stand-GRR!!! Something I should have looked into and overlooked (hard for me to accept since I thought I had it all under control-lol)

Grooms Cake – A+
[email protected]

Kelly came recommended by Lorna (LornaandPeter) another Woodlands bride! I was torn between a Steelers football and Superman. I decided to have Kelly make a carrot cake (DH’s favorite) the outer layer was fondant. I asked her if she could illustrate a pic of Superman carrying Lois Lane I found online. I tried to keep the price to a minimum so she printed the pic and stuck it on the cake (not to happy about that but, it still looked great). I added Mt. Hood (Oregon), some trees and it was Kelly’s idea to add the stream. The grooms cake was a big hit since the we did a cake cutting twice. Our guests werent expecting that.

Signature Drink
Signatue Cocktails – A++++

www.signaturecocktails.com

I was having trouble coming up with a name for our signature drink and with everything else on my mind, I was wondering if someone could do it for me???? So, I googled and found Lisa. She asked me a few questions and created a delicious martini called “Albee Yours Forever” (Our last name is Albertson, DH’s friends call him Albee)

Limo
Royalty – A++

www.royaltylimo.com

Royalty came recommend by Nicole (schole08). Nicole and I were in daily contact (especially towards the end) because we were both Woodlands brides, a month apart. We only needed a limo to get us to the Woodlands from the hotel so, Most limo companies wouldn’t give me a price over the phone which was difficult because I was on the west coast. After speaking to Nicole, I contacted Royalty (Maria) and explained to them the situation, they gave me a decent price (4 hour minimum) and I sent them a deposit. They showed up early picing up the guys first and then returing to the hotel to pick up the girls. The car was very clean and the driver very sweet.

CONGRATS Kim! That was an awesome review! You are definitely one of the most gorgeous brides on this site! And wow - you really put in so much time and everything came out so beautiful! It is awesome you did all this from 3,000 miles away! I really loved the BM's dresses, the invitations, the cake, your hair and ofcourse your lashes!

There is so muh to comment on...oh and I love the pic of you and DH in front of that yellow wall...so pretty! Congrats and glad I helped to motivate you! LOL
