My 6-25-06 Review! Jericho Terrace, Cassarino, Bravura, Island Mystic, Strathmore, Jenn The Hair Genie, Michelle Nocella - Defining Moments, Pedestals *LONG* SOME Non-Pro Pics!!
First, I have to give thanks to Ron & Liz for creating this site. It has been such a resourceful tool in planning our wedding. I am not sure how I came to find this site, but I have found it to be a valuable planning tool, and I have made a few friends along the way! I want to give a few special thank you shout outs to:Sasha (somethingblu), who knew JT would bring us together and find out we had SO much more in common. I am so glad to have been able to form a friendship with you and get to meet you (though momentarily) before you and Ant moving to GA. Hope we can GTG when I visit my dad!! MISS YOU!!!

Katrina (akamrst), amazingly 6/25 was our first “in-person” meeting and I felt like I had known you for years! It was such an honor to finally meet you and Reg! We had a blast, and Sebastian says “We have to get together with them!” Also, another friend told me she said to her DH “They look like a fun couple”. Thank you for you countless emails and FMs calming me in the weeks/days/hours before the wedding. I hope we can/will GTG soon!

And last, but nowhere near least, Gina (gina674). Where do I begin…Macys?!?!
I never thought I’d meet anyone on this site that could understand and relate to SO many things with me! Biggest of all, the JOB.
Thank you for sending me to Michelle, I swear, she was the magical ingredient to make our day perfection in my eyes! I am so anxious and excited for your and David’s day…4 months!!!

Thank you for being such a good friend and for always knowing the right things to say!
I had posted a few days ago about not stressing the small stuff, and I mean that whole-heartedly. I am guilty of stressing over some things, but then I hit a point, almost like a point of no return, when it was not worth stressing because things were no longer under my control. I also realized that there were things I actually had no control over, such as weather, other people arriving on time and such.
Overall, our day was amazing. Some people have asked me if I could do it over would I change anything, and I would, but only little things. I am most excited to be married to my best friend and that I shared it with so many people that are important to us both. I have to say, that is the one thing you need to not lose sight of, no matter what. On that note…let’s move on to the review. When I get my proofs (hopefully w/I the next 2-3 weeks) I will post them on here!! The photos that are on here now are ALL courtesy of Katrina (akamrst), thank you so much for your 400+ pics!!!
Tuxedos - *9* The Tux Shop/Flowerama, Queens Blvd, Forest Hills
DH and his brother have been going to this tux shop since high school, so it was a no brainer we’d get the tuxes from here. Also DH’s brother used them for his wedding in May 2004. They were very accommodating with our many OOT guys. We opted for the most basic (and inexpensive) tux, which worked out fine. Only “bumps” were my BIL’s tux was missing his hankie and DH’s button fell off just before he walked down the aisle! Otherwise, all was good!
Here is DH walking in with his mother
My wedding dress – * 10* Bridal Reflections (Massapequa)
I had started dress shopping in March of 2005, knowing my mom would be here in April (she lives in Illinois) and I wanted to have a few ideas to take her to see. My first stop was at Lillette’s in Baldwin, I tried on 4 dresses, the first one was IT, but I gave the other three a fair shot. I asked the name of the designer (as there was no tag in the dress), b/c I wanted to look for a photo to email my mom, it was the truth and that’s what I told the sales girl. She said it was a brand new style and wasn’t sure who the designer was. She said she would find out for me and let me know. I went back there a week or so later to shop for BM dresses with my MOH. The salesgirl was helpful in letting us roam free. As we did, I started looking at bridal gowns, and noticed very few had the designer’s tags in them. This worried me, and even more so, they didn’t “know” the designer of my dress. A week later I went to Bridal Reflections in Massapequa, described the dress and the wonderful salesgirl (Kristi) brought it out! That was it! I told her of my experience at Lillette’s and also that the price was lower @ Lillette’s. Kristi was kind enough to match Lillette’s price and was so helpful in the ordering process.
My dress was scheduled to arrive in November 2005, it arrived in August, and I was thrilled. Took my MOH with to make sure it was the right gown and try it on.
I started fittings in April, and each time I was there, I had nothing but good experiences. ZiZi, one of the seamstresses, was great. I asked her to take the gown in, b/c trust me there was room for it. But she suggested I not do it, b/c it would have created “wrinkles”. She pinned it so I could get a visual, and I am glad I opted to keep it as it was. They are the professionals. I highly recommend them!
Here is a pic of the back
My veil - *10* Ebay- seller veiledandbejeweled
I was not sure what I wanted, and did a lot of shopping around and trying on veils. I knew I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and knew I didn’t want a blusher. I ordered a cathedral length veil from veiledandbejeweled. Received the veil fairly quickly and the price was right. Don’t recall exact cost, but it was approximately $40 including shipping. It did its job. My only “complaint”, which has nothing to do with the vendor was the day of the wedding, the veil kept getting caught in the bedding of my gown! It was a 1 tier cathedral length with sequins and pearls all along the edge, starting at the top. The veil can be seen in the above pic, with the back of my dress.
My Tiara – *10* domsmom52704 (Jessica)
I never thought I would get a tiara; I had tried on my MOH’s sometime after she was married and didn’t like the way it looked on me. I figured I would get a decorated comb, until I saw Jessica’s post about selling her tiara. I saw the pics and the design matched my dress, so I got in touch with her, met up with her and LOVED it!!! Especially the way it sparkled in the sunlight!!! Thanks Jessica!!
Bridesmaid’s dresses * 10 * Junior Bridesmaid’s dresses * 10 *
BM-Lazaro Style # LZ0823 (scoop), LZ1923 (v-neck), in Aqua double-faced taffeta. I had seen a pic of this dress in a magazine and fell in LOVE with it. Fortunately all my girls liked it too! There are 2 styles 1 with a v-neck and 1 with a scoop neck, my MOH had the scoop and the BMs had the v-neck. MOH's dress was purchased and altered in VA. The rest of the BMs were purchased and altered at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. No complaints.
JR BM- I had decided about 6 months before the wedding that I wanted my 2 stepsisters to be Jr BMs, and the search began for dresses. I went to Bridal Reflections to check out their selection and was able to compare a Lazaro Aqua dress side-by-side with a Jim Hjelm aqua dress. They were as close a match as I was going to get, being that they were two different designers. My older stepsister is 16 and 5’7”, so she didn’t quite fit the Jr dresses, so she got the comparable style in the BM size. These two dresses were bought and altered in Illinois, as that is where my stepsisters live. The name of the store is Sara Grace, in Rockford, IL. From what my mom shared with me, the staff and owner went OVER and above to make sure the dresses were ordered on-time, correctly and alterations were done in time for their trip out here for the wedding. Obviously, the first photos are the samples.
These are both styles, scoop on left, v-neck on right.

This is the Jr Jim Hjelm, Style #J302

This is the Jim Hjelm BM dress, #JH5745

So far, this is the best pic I have of all the girls together. BMs are to the left, Jrs are to the right, and my MOH (who had on the scoop) is the last one on the right...but all you can see is the back of the dress.
Cake Topper - FairytaleWeddingShop.com * 10*
DH had seen this cake topper in Spencer Gifts and every time we saw it, he said he wanted it. When it came time to buy a cake topper, he said he was serious and wanted that. I had no problems with it, as it’s fitting to our personalities. Anyone who knows us knows we’re very young at heart and fun!! I had come across the topper online, cheaper than in Spencer’s. It arrived quickly, and I noticed the ball and chain was not attached to the Groom’s ankle. I emailed them, and received a return authorization. I received a replacement, which was perfect, in less than a week.
Invitations - *10+ * Diana- Pippy’s Sweets
A ten doesn’t even BEGIN to express the greatness that Diana produces. I had longed for pocketfolds in Envelopement’s aqua, as it was a near perfect match to my BM dresses. However the cheapest I found them for was $1200. I found Diana on this site and she gave me a quote for MUCH less for exactly what I wanted. I wanted thermography, which she out sources, and found a GREAT price ordering thru Carlson Craft. I received them a week before we expected, which was awesome! I am still amazed at how beautiful they are! And I received SO many compliments, even from some guys! Diana also printed the names and addresses on the outer envelopes. One of the best things about Diana’s pricing is it includes assembly. Any pocketfold dealer I consulted charged for assembly.
Menus, Programs, CD Favors, Favor Tags * 10+ * Diana-Pippy’s Sweets
What can I say Diana was a godsend! She does amazing work and her prices can’t be beat! If anyone is considering CD Favors, I HIGHLY recommend Diana!! All of her work is fantastic!! And she’s an LIW vendor!! Her FM is Pippy's Sweets.

Bridesmaid’s Jewelry – * 10* S&S Fashions, 1st Floor @ Tri-County
I have purchased a few things from this vendor and had always been pleased. I went back for the Bridesmaids jewelry and selected a coordinating bracelet and earrings in clear aurora borealis stones, so they could wear them again.
Groomsmen’s Gift Cards - *9 *- Fossil, Queens Center Mall
Not too much to day, just that their selection of the actual gift cards was quite limited, only 3 choices of which 2 were quite feminine.
Favors - * 10 * The Knot / marthastewart.com / Me /
We had two favors (aside from the CDs listed above), one was a mini-picture frame and the other was a white box of Starburst. I ordered the frames from The Knot, they were delivered with no problems, and each frame was in it’s own box. I didn’t want to use them as placecards, so I decided to wrap each one in white paper and use silver and aqua ribbons to accent them. I bought the paper at Dollar Tree (1 roll wrapped 50 boxes) and the ribbon was from Fantasy Bridal in Patchogue (can’t recall the pricing, but if you know the place, it was reasonable).
The second favor was a white favor box, purchased at www.marthastewart.com right before she was sent to prison and they were selling off items like they were Christmas trees on Christmas Eve! I ordered 200, only received 180-something because that was all they had in stock. They credited my credit card the difference.
I put some Starburst in each box with a label that read, “While in the Police Academy, Jill often had Starburst candies that she shared with everyone. But she never gave out the orange Starburst; she saved them for Sebastian because they were his favorite. Today we share all the colors with you! Thank you for sharing in our day! Jill & Sebastian” I then wrapped each box with a light aqua satin ribbon, and used a favor seal, by Diana. What was sweet was at the reception a few of Sebastian’s friends came up to him with an Orange Starburst (or two) and said “Here, we’ll share with you too”
JENN AKA Hair Genie - My hair * 10 *
My hair came out a bit different than the trial, but I put all my faith into Jenn’s hands! She does amazing work. She did mine, my mom’s, 2 Jr BM’s, 1 BM and 1 MOH. All loved their hair!!
Defining Moments (Michelle) - Makeup & DOC * 10+++++++++ *
First, thank you to gins674 (Gina) for referring me to Michelle. After our engagement party in April ’05, I had no problem convincing Sebastian that a DOC was needed. Our E-Party was only 60 guests, but too many things went “wrong”, and he saw it first hand, right along with me. From the first time we met with Michelle Sebastian and I knew she was the one!! Michelle spent almost 2 hours with us the first night we met, talking about a wide range of wedding and non-wedding things. We booked her on the spot for DOC and make-up.
I honestly do not know where to begin. Michelle was without a doubt a LIFE SAVER! You do not realize, unless you have been married before, know what can and does go wrong the day of the wedding. But most importantly, you do not realize that unless you want to miss parts of your day trying to fix those issues, a DOC is essential! There were a few, just a few mishaps, and had Michelle not been there to dodge the bullet from me, and fix the situation, I would not have been able to enjoy my day as I did. Michelle, words cannot express the gratitude both Sebastian and I have for all your efforts on our day. Thank you, I love you and you are an amazing woman!! I will elaborate more on a mishap that Michelle did a phenomenal job taking care of! At one point, before getting dressed, my dad was asking me who’s leaving when, who’s going where, etc etc. I then decided to make a general announcement. I said “No questions for me today. If ANYONE has any questions, concerns, issues, anything at all; go to Michelle.” And she agreed! Ahhhh, my lifesaver!
On the make-up front, Michelle used airbrush make-up, which I LOVED! It feels so light and as if you have no make-up on at all!! Best part, she was able to cover up the faint tan lines I had!! Superb Job!!! Anyone who has Michelle booked for DOC and/or Make-up has NOTHING to worry about!!
Strathmore Limousines - Limos * 10 *
The owner is a very good friend of SIL’s ex-boyfriend, booking them I had no fears of them taking care of us in a financial and business way. We had the Rolls Royce and Escalade. No complaints. They arrived on time; we left on time and arrived to the church on time! Even in the drizzly rain and with a last minute detour b/c the Jackie Robinson Parkway was supposedly closed. Our car (Rolls Royce) was clean and A/C worked well. Not sure how the Escalade was, didn’t get into it, but heard from the others it was clean and cool! Drivers were attentive and very nice! Sorry guys- didn’t get their names. One of the drivers was there the end of the night to pick Sebastian and I up! He too was on time, but had to wait…more on that later. He was very cool about it!!

DH&I and Rolls Royce
Holy Child Jesus Church - Ceremony Location *10 *
I moved around a lot so I did not have a parish I called home in about 10 years, so it was a no-brainer to have our ceremony at the church where Sebastian attended growing up and was baptized, received first communion and confirmed (at age 23, in 2002). Our ceremony was presided over by Monsignor Hinch. What a wonderful man. He had also presided over Sebastian’s sister’s wedding in 2000, the service that Sebastian (and his sister and brother) received their sacraments as well as a memorial mass when his sister had a miscarriage.
I can’t say enough good about this church and it’s staff. Monsignor Hinch is such a sweet man and priest. We were fortunate to have ZERO restrictions. Everything went so smoothly. The funny part was, when he was assisting us with our vows, we repeated what he’d said. Well, Monsignor fed me the line “I Jill, take you Brian” But my DH is Sebastian . . . his BROTHER is Brian! I said the right name, but it was something to chuckle about!!
Cassarino - Photography & Video -Day of* 10 * pending final product
Our photographer was Jodi who is a GEM! She did our engagement shoot, and is so fun! She has a good personality and is good at getting your real smiles to come out! I received a bunch of compliments on her from guests! Her assistant (sorry, forgot your name) was a sweetheart too!
I was so bad that day with remembering names, so please forgive me. The Video Manager at Cassarino is Ken, he was not our video guy for the day, but did stop by while we were at JT to say hi. The gentleman, who was our video man, was very kind and sweet. So sorry I forgot your name!!
I actually stopped by the studio on Friday, was told that it takes 3-4 weeks for proofs, so we’re 2 down 1-2 more to go!!!
Pedestals (Marcella) - Flowers & Centerpieces * 9.5*
Pedestals did our church flowers, pew bows, throwing petals (in organza bags), all bo-ks, bouts and corsages, petals on the place card table, petals on cake table, centerpieces, and orchid swag/petals and candles for our table. The CP’s were beautiful. When we walked into the room, before everyone else, I was taken aback by the glow from the candles. Love them! Marcella was a gem to work with. Anytime I called with questions, she personally got on the phone to talk with me. Same thing with when I went in. I decided 3 days pre-wedding to bring in extra (3 yards) of material from the BMs dresses to have them wrap their stems, which came out beautifully. All the bo-ks were beautiful. I am so glad for Marcella’s suggestion to add hints of green hydrangea to all the bo-ks. It really added a nice touch. Oh, and there were some stephanotis in my bo-k…didn’t ask for them, but loved it!
Realizing now after looking at pics, there were no petals on the cake table (not sure if that was their error or Jericho Terrace’s error—read below for explanation) and there were no petals on the tables, around the centerpieces.

Island Mystic (Bravura) - Cocktail Hour Music * 9 *
We wanted something fun and laid back for the CH. Though DH and I didn’t spend as much time in the CH as we anticipated, while there we did enjoy what was being played. Others had good things to say as well.
Bravura DJ (Tony-MC, -DJ and Alex-Percussion) - Reception Music * 10 *
They did as they were to do. Played music and had people dancing. I did list my 20 top requests but know that only a few were played. My “Do Not Play” songs weren’t played. They did play the songs we requested for the bo-k toss and such. Overall, though songs I wanted to hear weren’t played, they did have the people dancing!
Here is a good shot w/ akamrst's DH taking a turn on the drums!
Jericho Terrace (Mike Closs-BM, Linda -Maitre ‘d, Sandy & Rob-Bridal Attendants)- Reception Location * 9 *
I had looked at about 15 reception halls starting in the summer of 2004. I had gone to Jericho Terrace on a whim, and fell in love. I narrowed my hall selections to 3 (which included JT, Leonard’s and North Ritz Club) and took DH to see them all. He too fell in love with JT as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. But it was the Dome Room that sold him! We worked with Mike Closs, from day one. He has always been very comforting and accommodating to make sure we got all our wants without totally breaking the bank! One of DH’s requests was an ice shot block (aka: ice shot slide). I at first thought he was kidding, but he wasn’t. Mike said no problem. After signing w/ JT, I knew we had selected the right place. Any and every time I went there I was greeted with a smile and warm welcome. I always felt at home.
From the moment we arrived on our wedding day, we were met by our MD-Linda and BA’s-Rob and Sandy. Rob and Sandy were quite attentive, making sure we had something to drink and snack on while photos were being taken. They even brought a few plates of food from the cheese & fruit displays in the waiting area to our families who were waiting their turn for pics.
There were a few flub-ups, some I overlooked w/ little worry one, well…
As DH and I cut into the cake and pull out the slice, I see devil’s food cake with chocolate cream filling. I was disappointed as we ordered yellow sponge cake with chocolate pudding and canola cream filling. With the BIGGEST of smiles, as I was VERY aware that the video and many still cameras were on me, told Linda (MD) that this was the wrong cake. She asked if the outside was correct, I said yes, but the inside was wrong. Still smiling, I informed her what it was supposed to be, and mentioned she was very lucky that neither of us was allergic to chocolate. I then danced with my dad, DH danced w/ his mom, and we both went back to our table. There was a bit of a lull in the action, I later found out it was because Linda (and crew) were trying to figure out what happened to OUR cake. In comes Michelle (DOC—my savior), she informed me that there was a mix up, and my cake was in the OTHER WEDDING! She then told me she was going to talk with them to get me some compensation for the flub. Michelle returned to let me know the party was being extended ½ hour! You know I made sure to pass the word fast (thought most people left as soon as they ate the cake).
We also had the chocolate fountain. One tiny complaint, DH and I didn’t get to “do” it. Sandy (BA) did make up a plate with two skewers of stuff, but it would have been cool to “do” it. Also had the cordial and international coffee table, didn’t get to that either.
The RIGHT cake
Chocolate Fountain!
There was also poor display of my wishing bowl after the cocktail hour, and I have pics to prove it. I am not sure how it was displayed in the cocktail hour, as we were not in there for long. After the CH, they moved the bowl up to outside of the reception room; it was behind the frame explaining what to do… Here you can see the in the mirror, the bowl behind the frame.
I think that’s it. I am sure I am forgetting things, as I remember, I’ll post.
Please feel free to FM with questions, or ask me about something I didn’t post, that’ll jog my memory!
Thanks for reading!!
