We are in the process of hiring a photographer & we really want to use the photojournalistic style. My fiance has become convinced that in order to have nice photojournalistic pictures we need to have 2 photographers, but it is so expensive. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, what did/will you do?

2 photographers?
I'm a videographer, but.....2 camera coverage is always the way to go. With 2 Photographers you will get those candid shots in black & white that you're looking for......I like candid. But yet you still want your traditional color portraits and albums. It is well worth the extra money to have 2 photographers.
Good Luck!

We use one photographer to shoot both formal and photojournalistic images.
The only time we use two photographers is if there is a request for table photos.

It's simply not possible to do both formal and candid, black + white and color, and different films and perspectives with one photographer. It depends on how important the photography is to you. Do it only if you see the difference and think that the extra to do it right is worthwhile. Make sure that you compare complete albums from one wedding at a time (not the best from a few weddings in one book.)
There are lots of choices out there, so make sure that you're getting what you're comfortable with in a price range that you think will be worthwhile. (those phone calls I occasionally get from people who went a different route to save some money and then regretted it are heartbreaking.)

If what you want is true photojournalistic coverage, then two photographers are definitely the way to go. Take coming down the aisle for instance, one photographer is standing in the front of the aisle poised ready for you to come down the aisle while a second photographer is standing in the back vestibule with you capturing the emotions with your dad as you get ready to make that move. No photographer, no matter how good they are, can be in two places in one time. My husband and myself move around the dance floor and in different locations throughout the wedding day capturing different angles and views. We also do not charge extra for a two photographer shoot.

We tried doing photojournalistic coverage several different ways. We now firmly believe the best results are achieved when a phototeam consists of
a traditional photographer with stylist and lighting assistant accompanied by a N.Y.C. top-talent photojournalist. It doesn't have to be expensive if your wedding is on Long Island. When you have a photo team that works together often, they know each other's movements and work accordingly. Guests see and work with the traditional photographer and often didn't even realize that a photojournalist was present at the wedding, even though the photojournalist took hundreds of photos in addition to the hundreds taken by the traditional photographer and stylist. By not noticing the photojournalist, the photojournalist gets the best possible, emotional photos. We can show you weddings where both traditional and photojournalistic coverage was involved. See our website for some...see us for more.Congratulations on your wedding plans from Photos of the Heart !!!

We use one photographer to shoot both formal and photojournalistic images. If the photographer is competent, he/she can accomodate you with both styles. In addition, our lighting assistants are qualified to use a second camera to capture either formal or photojournalistic styles from the 'getting' dressed time to the end of reception.
The only time we use two photographers is if there is a request for table photos, because you don't want to miss out on your reception photos.
