Are DJ/Band services taxed??

I am using a DJ/Band combo and he is trying to charge a tax. He says it is a lower rate of something like 4% or something. I was under the impression that these services are not taxed. Is this correct.

Anyone charging you tax, service charge etc. on entertainment services - should be a red flag warning.
There is no tax on any entertainment- performing-music services. Anyone using the terms tax, service charge, union tax etc. is simply making more money on you. They are charging you an additional fee to hype the cost. You can verify this with your accountant or any accountant.

I have also never heard of a tax or service fee for a band or DJ. Look into that before you sign anything!
Good luck!

As an additional thing to look out for - I just saw a contract that the entertainment company was addiing
a gratuity percentage in addition to the tax. This was in small print. Read your contracts very carefully. Anyone adding tax etc is someone you should think very carefully about using.

I concur and would be suspicious of anyone using the word 'tax' to describe add on fees.

As far as fine print, mandatory gratuities - yes, it happens with some entertainment vendors.
Although I'm sure most, if not all, LIWEDDING entertainment vendors would disapprove.

Most of us feel that you're already paying for the service. Tips should be OPTIONAL. Any tip offered, is a special compliment that should be accepted graciously and never expected or demanded. You should probably be suspicious of thise guys too.
