Attention Photographers!

Attention Photographers!

Okay, I've started my wedding planning with the one item I expect to pay cash in full at the time of purchas for and will be saving all my loose change and no longer eating lunch out at work to put my 'lunch money' into a special account... my wedding gown! I feel like I'm already getting sold up a river and I've only been to 4 places! My budget was $2-2,500. I'm being made to feel like that's not good enough. I love a dress at Davids Bridal, and have no quams about only paying $5-600 for it, just gives me more money to spend for lets say... the photographer (just being cute).

I went to Bridal Reflections on the other hand and they are showing me $5000 dresses and insisting that the attention to detail (such as swarovsky crystal) is what every bride remembers in years to come. Now seriously, I don't think people will be feeling up my dress on my wedding day to make sure I selected the finest material and while they may be gazed by my meticulous beauty and lovely swarovsky crystals... when I'm 90 and senial it will be my wedding pictures that will hold my wedding memories.

Now to the point... my question:

Do the details such as crystals, even show up in wedding pictures? Would I be just as well off with a $500 gown as a $5000 gown when it comes to photogenics? Please advise. Thanks for the help

A good photographer will make an inexpensive wedding gown look like a million bucks, while a bad photographer will make a Vera Wang look like a Vera Wrong.

The most important thing is not to let anyone convince you of something you 'need' when you don't feel its worth it. That rule applies for weddings, cars, homes, jobs and just about everything.

That said, someone who knows about fabric and designer gowns will be able to tell the difference between the different types of gowns/fabric/style/workmanship/materials/etc.. both in person and in photos. But thats only relevant if you care about those things. And only applies to those who knows about these things (which is a very small % of the population).

Its your wedding - you do what feels right!

Hi,

All wedding dresses are beautiful. If not, why would anyone buy one?

Yes, the materials will show up in your photographs. However, the secret lies within the quality of the seamstress. Whether your dress is $500 or $5000, if the seamstress cannot get your measurements correct, then your dress will not look right. With that said, if it doesn't look right, then no photographer (regardelss of how good they are) will be able to photograph it properly. (I.E. too big on top, too tight in middle, length is too long that you keep stepping on it)

Regardless of how much you spend on your dress, the key is the seamstress and how they fit you into your dress. Be sure that your sales representative shows you a dress that was designed for your specific figure.

I hope this information was informative to you.

Good Luck,

PS- Be careful of the veil. Too much is too much. Keeping it simple will result in less distraction to your face and better photographs.

Ditto to SonicStef! (Hi Stef!)

My personal bias is that the personalities that show through in the aliveness of the photographs with everything else in supporting roles (dresses, food, flowers, etc.) is what matters. (Was that a sentence? sorry, it's been aother long day)

Whatever it is that you think will be important 20 years from now is what you should go with. (hmmm .... seems like I'm voting for .... photography!)
