bakery/wedding cake question

How long does a cake last? If my wedding cake is made on Wednesday, will it be ok to serve guests for a saturday wedding? What kind of icing lasts the longest?

I am doing everything on my own, and would like to have the cake done earlier in the week. Thanks for anyones help in advance!
