beach wedding

My fiance and i are having our wedding reception at John Anthony's. However, we would like to have the ceremony on a beach somewhat close by. Any suggestions on where to begin and how...or even if this idea is even possible? Thanks so much!!

Re: beach wedding

Greetings,

It's definitely possible because people do it all the time! I live a few blocks from the ocean here in Long Beach. However I think you would need to plan with care.

You might want to begin by contacting the municipality with jurisdiction over the beach you want to use. You will probably need a permit, or you may face certain other restrictions you will want to know about right away. For example, they may limit how many events can occur on any one day.

If you're going to have music at this ceremony, bear in mind that plugging in amplifiers may not be allowed. But you should be permitted to have unplugged, acoustic performers. If amps are permitted but there are no plugs, there are battery powered amps available.

Remember too that the sound of the waves may drown out speech and instruments, depending on what kind of a surf day you happen to have. So plan on a relatively small ceremony audience, and they should be seated or standing relatively close to the action.

Here on the east coast, the surf tends to be highest in the morning and calmer later in the day -- this is just a general trend -- but I would not plan on a sunrise wedding by the beach because of more active, noisy surf. I would plan on a late afternoon or early evening event. Just my suggestion.

If you're interested in flute/guitar for your ceremony and would like to hear us and learn about us, please visit our Gigmasters website. If you'd like a price quote, please fill out the form as completely as you can or we won't be able to give you an accurate number.

Hope this helps!
