cheap centerpieces

There are lots of inexpensive centerpieces that you can make yourself. Walmart has a pretty large craft department and you can generally find a lot of the same products that Michaels and Jo-An's has much cheaper. Candles certainly would be the easiest. I've seen nice glass vases, different sizes, and you can fill them with flowers and water and out a floating candle on top... another idea: take a small wire birdcage decorate with ivy or your choice of flowery garland and put votives inside and around it...
